    building a playset/carrying case/wardrobe

I have seen some of the gorgeous carrying cases/playsets that have been made here, and I am dying to try it myself.

The thing is, I have no clue as to where to start.

What sort of materials do I use?

    Mat board? Chipboard?

    What kind of covering?

    Vinyl? Fabric?

Where to I find the hardware such as clasps, hinges and handles?

What kind of glue to use?

    Fabri-Tac? Gorilla Glue?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm still getting my store in order, but you can order a kit to make your own vinyl carrying case playset at Dida Displays | Customizable Vinyl Displaysets. The new parts have just arrived from the factory in Southern California.

The kits are vinyl sealed chipboard that you can insert any artwork into and then they screw together. I have two basic options for carrying cases. The Carry Cube and the Carrying Case. The cube is 10x10x10 and opens up to 10x30, the Carrying Case is 10x22x9 and opens up to a variety of sizes depending on the extras.

They come with all the hardware and clasps you need to make your own case. And of course you can choose from my artwork or make your own.

I'm going to be doing some tutorial videos to show how to do some of the basic and more advanced techniques.

      WOW! Those are fantastic!

I had hoped for something similar to the Dinah-mite carrying case, but one that was customizable as to drawers, and rods for hanging up outfits; as well as a compartment for the figure, and maybe a small vanity with chair.

There was someone that was displayed in Haute Dolls magazine that made GREAT diorama carrying cases, but I can't recall his name right off the bat.

I remember one that looked like a library wall out of the CLUE boardgame, complete with gothic type candlesticks, and there was one out of Harry Potter, complete with broomstick, desk and chair.

Obviously, I am not about to ask you for something that involved.

      Thanks for the quick response.

The Dinah Wardrobe is cool, it's partly inspiring the Brick Mantooth playset. I'd like it to have a similar fashion closet component to it.

If you look at this picture of my Swan Station playset you can see a narrow case in the middle (the bookshelf) I custom built using Dida parts--it's 10x10 but only 3 inches deep.

I think the Brick playset is cool.

          Cheesy, but cool.

Dinah, who doesn't get enough respect, deserves one as well.

But please God, not that horrid shade of red/orange!!

I don't see her as the type of girl with a Victorian style bedroom, with all of the frills, lace and froufrou stuff that was of that period.

I'll have to think further on that.

MegoScott's stuff is cool, and well worth the investment.
