Need Some Help with Molding and Casting

Hey Guys, I recently decided I am going to spring for a molding and casting kit from Smooth On. My goal is to re-produce weapons, heads, and more that I created. Here's where my question comes in...I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me if you make a mold of a pre-painted custom head will the paint come off in the process? (when you remove the original head from the mold) If so, is there any way to stop that from happening? Thanks Gang

    Hi Will,

While I definitely do not consider myself an authority on customizing I can tell you that in my experience I have never had a pre-painted head lose any paint from creating a mold. I hope this helps.

If you use mold release it should be fine.

        Hmmmm....

I don't think the paint will come off if you're using some sort of silicone; especially if you've sealed the painted part. (There won't be anything for the mold to bite.) You might want to try a test on something easily repainted at first though. Just in case.

I use smooth on trial kits and no, it doesn't strip the paint off.
Even a painted resin head will come out of the mould intact and i never seal them.
