    Creativity VS. Collecting:Part III

I should have never signed up to the Mego Museum because I am NOT getting any work done!!!

Let me just say how awesome it is to get responses from other members. It really is a beautiful and wonderful human-thing to express a personal joy one has and to have others respond in kind, bringing their own enthusiasm, memories, and experiences.

OK. Here's my idea for a Traditional 70's-style Chewie.
They would pull heavily from the POTA series:

    1. First, they would have to spend some money on a new head sculpt. Trying to pass off the Soldier Ape as a Wookie would be just wrong and possibly create some enemies. It is kinda close though, the way the hair is combed back off the fore head.

    2. T-2 Black body. POTA or Falcon with the hair on the back of the hands.
The General Gorilla's belt he wears across his chest as a bandolier. That's a no-brainer.

    3. No money for a tooled-cross bow laser rifle. We'll go with the classic Action Jackson or again, soldier ape M-16.

    4. Green Goblins brown side pack is more than perfect.

    5. (I got real excited when this idea popped into my mind.) And, since we blew all our money on the head sculpt, we're going to get real creative and use The Human Torch's costume and change the color palette from reds, oranges, and yellows to browns like burnt and raw umbers, reddish browns like Siennas, and deep yellows. Don't even change the flame motif. It looks just like wavy hair!
I'm going to try this out. I'll get some brown Sculpy clay for the head and look for a used Human Torch costume. A.C. Moore or Joanne's Fabrics for the dye and some tips, Dr. Megos Repros and TV Toys.com can get me the gear.
    And there you have it!!!
I don't really want to do anything responsible right now like bills or baseball practice or mowing the lawn. I just want to make my Chewbacca!

Thanks for staying with me and keep the "Traditional Galaxies Greatest Super Star Wars 8" Action Figures" ideas coming!

The only thing I would throw in there is that Lucas had approval on toys, you think he'd approve stuff using existing Mego parts?

I'm not so sure about that back in the 70's the who merchendising thing wasn't so lucrative back then, plus kenner got away with recycling stormtrooper guns for nearly every alien/villian figure including Boba Fett so he may have let that slide

I guess it would've depended on their pre or post production policy. I know if you go into a Toys R Us today you can become very dissapointed upon seeing what famous person has been chosen to play the part in a movie you're waiting to see or what the costumes look like, etc. You know, when you're trying your best to be surprised when you go the movies? It seems today that they make toys for every endeavor, as incentives to buy other products.(Happy Meal toys). Are materials cheeper now, are overstocked products a tax write-off? Does every company just make a certain amount of toys for every movie because they know Americans will spend money they don't have (especially at Christmas time)? Was this the procedure in the 70's or did they wait until opening day to see whether or not they would invest in specialized accessories like custom guns, boots, sculpts, etc.?

True on this... I can't see them reusing an M-16 for a Wookie any more than I could see them using A/J's .45 for Han Solo...

A lot of people talk about Mego reusing its existing molds for other lines, which is true in a lot of cases... But they also made new accessories when called for: For the Apes they made the bandoliers, hands, "camel toe" boots, and hieroglyphic boots for Zaius... Star Trek seen them making phasers, communicators, attached boot legs, Neptunian arms/legs, Mugato feet, etc...

By the time SW would have came out, it doesn't seem like they were reusing as much as they did in the earlier stages of their figures...

at least they were trooper guns, not Action Jackson.

I think Mego would have modeled Chewbacca more on the Cowardly Lion.

Definately fur. on SOME. same shoes.

They reworked the bandolier to be a bandolier with a knife so maybe they could rework it again to be a bandolier with Green Goblins bag.
I think Mego would have made a couple of new guns . A Blaster Rifle. and a Blaster pistol and a lightsaber and that would have been it. Solo and Storm Trooper alike would have the same weapons.
I'd like to think they would make the Stormtrooper and Vader Screenprinted and modeled after the SuperKnights.
              c-3po? Silkscreen suit
R2D2? Little Rascals style Kenny Baker in a cardboard garbage can with a plastic top and legs.
No Tuskin Raider , Death Squad, or Jawa. Maybe if they got a second line and third like Star Trek.

They would have made the Jawas and Tusken Raiders, aliens sell to kids. And Artoo would have had to have been a fully sculpted thing. Having a person in a suit would have been just as costly.

I dont think the Jawa and Sand People would be in teh first wave though.
                  Most Mego have about 6.

Humans would be cheaper. Vader is a must. I think they might skip R2D2 . closet thing to that they had made was the Action Jackson Firefighter backpacks etc. Mego didnt do Robots yet really . . . . . .

Did the second and third ALIEN waves of Trek get released after Star Wars? Im off on my Trivia. :-)

                  First Wave of Six:

                  Luke
                  Han
Liea Hey they made a Zira .
                  Vader Super Knight style
Chewbacca: sculpting is expensive , "made in China" is cheap Oz Lionish

                  one of these
                  Threepeo Body suit like spidey
                  Stormtrooper Superknight or body suit?

R2 and 3PO were two of the most popular characters of the movie, I have no doubt they would have been made, besides the R2 figure could have been reused with a different head or paint job a few times.
