Applause Dick Tracy conversion to Mego?

I am a big fan of Dick Tracy, and I have been looking to do a custom Mego style. I see that some others have done some great custom work on here.

While looking for ideas, I was struck with the idea of using the 9" Applause figures from the 90's movie as bases to convert to Mego bodies. These figures had soft bodies like a stuffed animal with heads, hands, and feet attached. I am thinking that I could remove the limbs and padding from the figure, and basically insert a Mego body into the suit.

Now obviously, I'll need to determine how to connect the head to the Mego style body. And since I don't presently have one, it may be awhile. But I figured this was not an original idea and wondered if anyone had thought of it as well.

You'll have to reduce them a bit, it fits a 9 inch figure fine, but a Mego would look like its trying on Dad's clothes.

I have Dick Tracy and Big Boy if you are interested in buying or a trade for them.
Dick's hat has come off, but I would think it could be glued back on easily. Aside from DT's hat they are both in really great shape.

yea the hats usually come off, glue works fine since they were glued to begin with

A few years back I took the Dick Tracy clothes and used 'em for a Clark Kent. It looked great but did need some nip and tucks to make it work. Also I cheated in regards to the feet. I took a T2 that was missing the lower legs and feet and sized up the applause figures lower extremities and electrical taped 'em into place at the knees.

Funny you should mention this. I recently shrunk the Madonna/ Breathless Mahoney head. I used the method discribed here at the museum. Dip in acetone. Anyway. Got the head to shrink a little but not as much as other products. Must be the vinyl Applause uses to make there figures.

So, I opted to skip the shrinking.
I know the head is a bit big, but I wanted to give it a shot and see how it looks.
I did have to trim some width off the neck plug, but it works quite nicely.

I just gave him a test run in the only clothes (and a Retro DC body) I had available. I am thinking I will get a black suit from Dr Mego and a better style buck. But I don't know what to do about the coat. I can't sew all that well, and the coat seems like it needs a fair amount of reduction.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Cool, just need to get the head reduced somehow. Unfortunately the hat won'd do so hot in acetone since its a solid piece.

Here's Brick Tracy. I think I resewed the Applause pieces after I gutted the figure. I can't remember if the head would have worked or not.

you would have had to resew them a bit to fit a Mego, they fit Hasbro 9 inch perfectly.
