CTVT vs. Doc Mego (Question about their 8" bodies.)

I'm new here and have questions as well.
It seems the consensus here is that CTVT bodies are bad. I ordered a black colored male and a caucasian female. What am I to expect? Should I find an old female Mego doll or get a Breyer one? I prefer the Mego build.
As for the black, should I get one from Doc Mego? Does he carry them?
I'm just worried that my first customs are going to be fruitless. The female is a custom of my wife and the black is custom of my own superhero.
What do you folks think? I just don't want to give that custom to my wife only to have it fall apart on her when she displays it at her work desk.

CTVT bodies can be restrung so that they work and feel more like an original Mego body than a doc Mego body does. Doc Mego bodies are an attempt to improve the Mego body; CTVT bodies are an attempt to copy it. Doc got much better results, but the CTVTs have potential. Here's the link to how I restring. It's a pain, but people I've shown have agreed that if the CTVT bodies worked this well to begin with they would be much more useful.

As Steve pointed out, the CTVT bodies can be restrung, but it's work. For the work involved in doing this, and in replacing feet, hands, etc... You would probably be better off just looking for a cheap naked ape on Ebay (using your example further).

As for the Female, nothing beats the original Mego female so far. The CTVT's are a joke, and Doc hasn't yet reproduced them. I'm not a fan of the Breyer body myself. I'd get some beat up Oz or Waltons figures on ebay and use the bodies. Paint one black if need be, you'll be happier.

The only detractor from Doc's body is the somewhat orangey-tan look. But CTVT's bodies look a little grayish to me, so I guess it evens out as far as color goes.

I have one Doc Mego body and I know what you mean... I don't care for the odd color either.

I guess I have a question regarding the Doc Mego African-American bodies: Do they suffer from any type of "discoloration" as the Caucasians, or are their bodies evenly colored all over?

I just got a set of CTVT Mad Monsters... The only issue I have with them is loose left elbows... ALL 4 had the same issue! Other than that they are SWEET... I wonder if they have corrected production issues or something? They seem solid enough but I plan on using Doc's bodies for my custom stuff.

I have used both and Doc's are much nicer and not so brittle.

I've got some later stuff that's really good. Unfortunately you can't tell if you're getting a new or old bod until you HAVE it.

The best CTVT male bodies I've seen are the white, glow-in-the-dark, flesh, and brown bodies - joints are tight, no knock knees, hands and feet are in great shape. The colored bodies (red, blue, green, purple, yellow, orange, black) are hit or miss (broken hands, feet, knock knees, etc.).

The female bodies, however, are loose in the hips. I am eagerly awaiting Dr. Mego's female bodies to be released, as I have much moola to throw his way.

Based on my last order from Doc, his bodies are caucasian, brown, black, green, and white and cost $7 each. He will dye the bodies any color you want and that it is $10 each. I needed a couple of all red bodies.

Forgot to mention, the only CTVT body I owned was their Jet Jungle. He had the pee pee stance and he felt so fragile compared to the Doc bodies.
