CTVT vs. Doc Mego (Question about their 8" bodies.)

I have a question regarding the CTVT bodies vs. Dr. Megos 8" bodies.

As far as the CTVTs go, I've heard complaints about them, particularly about cracked joints and even more so, that their legs look like they're posed having to pee really bad...

I'm not so concerned about the cracks if they're minor, after all I'm just gonna display them pretty much, not go crazy with them... And restringing isn't a problem if they can be restrung like a T1 MEGO body. (Can they be restrung that way?)

My real question is this: How is the torso made? I mean I have one Dr. Mego body, and the torso is pretty hard, like you couldn't just pop a resin head into the hole where the head would go like you can on a MEGO... Are the CTVT bodies the same way, or are they a bit softer like the MEGO bodies torsos? (i.e. Are they resin head friendly if the resin head is a cast of a MEGO figure and has that style of neck plug, etc...)

They are a bit softer, but the CTVT body sucks so bad that it matters not to me. I can enlarge the DM neck hole real easy with a dremel.

CTVT bodies don't crack at the joints, they BREAK, meaning hands and feet come completely off. Want to pose that figure on the shelf before you stop touching it? Risky with a CTVT body, touching it once could be all it takes to break. That aside, it's hard to stand the figures with the knees locked together. We're not talking a small disadvantage, we're talking total suckage.

If you're going to use a repro body, use Doc's, or just use an original from a cheap ebay lot, but do yourself a favor, stay away from CTVT

CTVT's body = Total piece of garbage I would not give to my worst enemy.

DM body = Mego on steriods

Doc Mego torsos are fine for customs, but they have no "give" when heated.
You need to sand down the neck-plug to make the head fit.
      A very small consolation.

Go with the DM body, imo

CTVT bodies are nowhere near the quality of Docs. Broken feet and hands alone are enough to choose Doc's. Of all the CTVT bodies I've stripped for the accessories, I think 4 are left together unbroken. That's out of like 20. Plus CTVT are smaller than Mego's while Doc's are beefier. You don't want weak, wimpy, looking customs do you?

I know when Doctor Mego was out. I went to CTVT and ordered a bunch. Most of them came all busted up. I complained and they quickly shipped me a bunch of replacements. The replacements are so disportioned and the legs look like one is shorter then the other. I used one for Charles Xavier because he doesn't stand up.
I will never order from anyone else but Doctor Mego. Those bodies would probably be around after a nuclear holocaust. They are tough.

I like Doc's more as well, but CTVT are great for monsters/zombies/normal people, Doc's stuff is top-notch! So yeah I reccomend Doc's stuff too!

CTVT's Bodie's aren't completely useless. I buy the colored Bodie's for the Hands(I use from the Elbow down)...and the Elastics are nice and tight, and great for restringing original Mego Bodie's....as a lot of them I buy off eBay are loose.

Doc Mego's are pretty good....but I HATE the hard plastic Torso! So I swap it out for an original Mego one.

Dude, the one CTVT body I have, the repro Frankenstein, reminds me of happy meal toys (not the good ones now, but the ****e they had out when I ate happy meals). The Doc Mego ones are pretty frickin' sweet. I don't think the original megos were that nice.

I usually like using original T1 and T2 bodies but I have been known to mix and match body parts for my customs, so the cheap price of CTVT's comes in handy. I really like their 6 inch bodies and female bodies, I have had pretty good luck with them. I just bought my first Doc Mego bodies and they are really top notch. I think it really all comes down to what you wanna make, CTVT, Doc Mego, original Megos, they all have there uses.

I've only got a few CTVT bodies, and that peeing stance is annoying. Other than that, mine have stayed together. But Doc's are FAR superior. They have a heft to them that even original Mego doesn't. You could bludgeon someone with a Doc body!!!

The only detractor from Doc's body is the somewhat orangey-tan look. But CTVT's bodies look a little grayish to me, so I guess it evens out as far as color goes.

I'll stick with the docs bodies as well.CTVT equals crap;however if you need clothes, heads or other stuff and don't want the body then go with CTVT cause you can't beat the price just upgrade them to docs or originals.

                            Hmmmm....

Doc Mego bodies are fantastic. Well made, durable, good heft. Sometimes they need a bit of restringing 'cos the bands are pretty tight. CTVT stuff is really cheap; and has a fair number of defects; especially hands and feet. But if you're making customs and don't mind some maintenance and replacement they're okay.

So if you can afford it; go with the Doc bod. If you need a zillion bodies RIGHT NOW, maybe CTVT.

That seems to be the general concensus regarding the CTVT figures, and I am keeping that in mind... However, I do want to ask this: You mentioned the feet/hands completely break off... But, can their hands/feet be replaced with original or repro MEGO hands. Let's just hypothetically say I have a T2 Soldier Ape and the rest of his body is shot to beat ****, could those hands be attached to a CTVT figure and work out decently?

I have to ask again: If the figure is restrung, does that help eliminate the "locked knees"?
