I've bleached and dyed several items of clothing with varying success. Be careful when bleaching because it tends to eat away at the material. You could probably use RIT color remover, which is less harsh than bleach, to lighten an already light blue jacket. Then, use RIT red dye. I put a small amount (about 1/8 of the packet) of the powdered dye in about two cups of hot water and swish the clothing around until it looks the color I want. Rinse the clothing in hot water first and then gradually switch to cold until all excess dye washes out.

Thanks for the tips Mike I will try the Rit color remover approach. Also, I have never seen the Rit dye in powdered form, I always seem to see it in liquid form, and in bottles. Is the bottled stuff just as good as powdered? Thanks again Buddy

Rit color remover Tip -- If you have a gas grill w/ a side burner -- do it outside... Your friends and family will thank you. The stuff smells.
Don't be sorry. How would you know? You've been watching MTV all your life.

Thanks GMan, I appreciate the warning, and so does my family

If I was you Do Not at any time use bleach....
As Mike said it eats away at the material
I put a dirty pair of Isis/Dorothy underware in bleach and it destroyed it in 10 min...
