I want to shrink my own sculpt like the toy company

I have yet to learn how to shrink my sculpture exactlly.

I understand how the Mego heads are shrunk. But I want to make my own figurines ( like marx)

I want to sculpt them slightly larger to get more detail.

after i mold what do i use to cast that will shrink?

I understand I have to recast it when its teh size, repour the mold in my final plastic.

I just dont get teh inbetween step.

    A youtube pictoral?

This is not about shrinking heads. This is about shrinking my own sculpt.

This tutorial is for heads, but the same principle should apply to any sculpt.

Companies that make plastic soldiers use a pantograph machine to scale down their sculpts prior to tooling, which is making the metal moulds. Airfix, Matchbox and Marx, all of whom produced the exact same poses in a couple of different scales, use such machines, which are essentially like 3D etch-a-sketch machines, to get the level of detail that they achieve, in small figurines.
As far as I know, it's a very expensive industrial machine.
I sculpt toy soldiers for a living so I know a little about this stuff.
The figures I make are cast in tin alloy out of rubber moulds, and I sculpt 'em the same size as the finished article.

Thank YOU yet again Samurai Noir!!!!! YOU-ARE -AWESOME!

        baby Cyclops:

Crap! :-( I cant afford a Pantograph. They had something like that at College. Only the Design majors were allowed near it. It didnt do much for detail but if they were working with a type of foam that the machine would carve. Then the studenst would take teh piece and finish it with extra details to show off thier assignment ( I watched one semester while a bunch of kids made all sorts of futuristic DustBusters)

The Toy Business is worse than Fashion in terms of secrecy. When I did freelance for Kenner I Knew some of thier stuff wasnt done at scale. All the stuff I sculpted or painted at the prototype stage were done in scale and my two best buddies who also did freelance for Kenner also did everythig in scale.

Mummies alive, Batman, Star Wars Power of teh Force etc in teh 1990s were sculpted actual size.At least anything me or my friends worked on.

But one of our bosses had a display case an there were Star Wars Micro figures that were never released in it. A gammorean guard, Medical droid 21B. I just couldnt ask about it. They were 4 ups or something.

Youre sculpting your stuuf actual size too?

I just want to be able to do better detail. Even with magnifing glasses etc I just cant get the detail I want.
At SFX school I heard Savini did it once . He used a LOT of money but made a GI Joe sized shrink from a life cast of a head. (His own of course.) What I was able to make sense from him was he used a LOT of alginate and it took a lot of work and castings.
So that fabulous Klingon STTMP 2 up Test Shot from the Mego Museum ws "shrunk" with a Pantograph?
