best way to crack open a chest?

I would love some advice from the experts here... Does anybody know the best way to crack open a Cast-A-Way chest, such that it splits on the seams but can be glued back together?

I did some experimenting with a CTVT body, and it seemed to work best if I applied pressure with a screwdriver through the neckhole (well, better than cutting along the seams)... but those bodies are considerably thinner plastic.

Try a very sharp exacto knife or equivelant and just cut down the seams. Common sense needs to be applied though when working with sharp objects. In other words be careful as not to cut yourself as you cut the seams.

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but which way are you opening the chest? Do you mean cutting along the side seams of the upper torso, or making a vertical or horizontal line across the chest muscle area?

Splitting along the seams. I want to install an LED light "arc reactor" in the chest of my Iron Man custom. For the light itself, I will just drill a hole. But I'll need him cracked open to do the battery and wiring. Once everything is in place, I'll glue the halves back together and (ideally) you won't even be able to tell he was opened up.

I don't know about getting it back together - maybe Bondo and clamps would work - but have you tried tracing the seams carefully with an xacto blade until they come apart?

I have tried this method on some marvel legends and WWE wrestlers and not had a lot of luck, what I have found is that it depends on how they were constructed, some companies just glue where the pegs are others all along the seams, these can be a pain, some figures also have internal devides that can be a problem, best way is to find some one thats done it and hope they are helpfull enough to tell you how it's done.

Though you could use a emce toys khan body, they have no trouble coming apart and do easily glue back togeather with any good model glue

Hmmmm....

You might try cutting a hole in front for the light, a hole in back for a battery pack, and built the whole shebang as one piece that slides into (and is supported by) the back.
