molding and casting tiny little things help

How would you go about making a mold and casting little tiny things like a mego hockey mask with eye, nose and mouth holes? I can't imagine a bubble free casting happening without a pressure pot or something like injection casting. Any help? Ideas?

I think you've pretty much covered every answer already in your question.

The only other thing to do is run a layer or two of tape on the backside of the eye, nose, etc openings before molding, then in the casting it's continuous to allow material flow and you can then carve and sand off the "tape" section from the casting.

I'd suggest a bottom feed mold, to allow gravity to force some air up and maybe jury-rig a shake table for more air removal. To go really ghetto you can just side tap the mold against the table edge and run a cheap electric razor against it for vibration.

Also, if the openings are vaguely even, it might be easiest to just sculpt in guidelines for drilling/carving the parts out after each casting. I mean, when I recast my hands I have to drill the wrist pin holes in the same way.

Hmmmm. The mask is face specific, fitting perfectly. So tape on the inside wouldn't let it fit on anymore. The best I can imagine is a two part mold with the holes being the left open. Maybe with the pour hole along the bottom edge.

Yeah, i'd say a 2 part mould is your best option.

Don't forget to make a couple of extra channels so any trapped air can escape.

          Hmmmm....

Yeah, 2 part mold; vent the hell out of it. Should work. Thin layer of powder in the mold before pouring will help too.

Not a bad idea. I tap mine a few times on the table to help loosen air bubbles.

They won't know your single unless you tell them...

What ever you do,do not walk in there and tell them you are single and want to buy one for your action figures...

man, I work at a Spencers gifts and you'd be surprised how little sales people care about who buys what when it comes to that stuff.
I thinks it's worth it too, as that is a great suggestion for helping with bubble in casting and molds.

                            Hmmmm....

You could also use one of them back massagers, paint mixers or take the motor assembly out of one of them weird walking toys.
