    customing figures

    Hi all,

I want to get my son something very special for his birthday next year. The idea I have is to get his face onto a figure, the ultimate custom. I'd also like to see him as a Capt. America, Captain Kirk, or Captain Brandon lol or a Robin III (Tim Drake with his most recent outfit). Any idea on where to go to get basic questions answered..cost, time to make, things like this..any help is appreciated.

Oh, if it helps, I can't sew to save my life, so it'd have to be done by someone else.

    Thanks,
    Tony C.

It tends to get pricey having someone do a sculpt. I've heard it going in the $300-$400 range. Just an FYI

OMG...so, its something that has been done before, just pricey. Thanks for the heads-up BTW Dave.

        Hmmmm....

Y'know, this is a cool idea; but there really isn't an easy way to do it. Use a standard Mego bod; 8", 7" or kid bod as appropriate. Sew an outfit. OR trim down an existing one. The problem is the head: someone would have to sculpt it, and that'd take time and skill.

Easiest way: do it yourself. But you'd need some decent skill to pull of a replica of a real person. Having someone else do it would be expensive, AND there's no guarantee you'd be happy with the result. BUT if there's an existing head that's pretty close, it'd be a lot easier to modify. So I guess step one is to scan the Museum and see if there's an existing figure that's pretty close. If there IS, you may be in business.

A friend of mine once suggested going into business making replicas of actual people, but there's so much work involved it probably wouln't be feasable.

          Hey Tony,

The guys are correct. A custom head sculpt is a pricey proposition. There are two sites I have come across in my online travels.

Personalized Action Figures at AndGor Toy Company

Custom Talking Action Figures Of You 1-877-HERO-TOY

Both of these companies do personalized figures from scratch. The quote for a full figure on Herobuilders is $425.00

The andgor site doesn't list prices. But I received a quote from them about a year ago for just a head sculpt and it was over $300.00

You may want to do some surfing to see if you can find anything cheaper. But a head sculpt is a project where you probably get what you pay for.

          Good luck!!

I've heard a lot of bad things about AndGor.

Actually pretty sure Andgor is defunct and in some trouble.
