My version of STTOS Romulan Commander

This is my custom-made Mego Star Trek Romulan Commander from Balance of Terror, played by Mark Leonard. I've been collecting parts and planning this for about 2 years.

"You and I are of a kind. In a different reality, I could have called you friend..."

Head of Sarek by Capt Dunsel, cast & painted by Dave McCormick. Pants and sash by my wife, Collette!

It uses a vintage Mego Type-2 body, because the pants were too tight to get on a Doc Mego body! (The pattern at the museum assumes the stretchy Mego fabric, but the fabric I found was a tighter cotton.) Repro Mego Romulan body suit from EMCE's new retro Trek line with the legs cut off. Soft boots and long gloves by Cast-a-Way Toys, which were the last bits I needed for him, that I picked up at MegoMeet this weekend. I still need to paint his hair a darker shade, and maybe put a little shading around his eyes.

This episode was one of my top 3 favorites from the classic Trek. Special thanks to my non-Museum friend Ed Wires, for sharing reference images from a mainstream plastic action figure of the character he was hired to paint-master. (I don't know if that figure has or will be released...)

You nailed him. Your wife did a great job on the pants and sash

Holy crap! That is SWEET! I love it!

Mark's interpretation of that Romulan Commander has always been one of my favorite portrayals.

                Looks really nice
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

I didn't realize that either. I usually just click on the new posts button and read what's in boldface font. I don't go through the subforums...usually miss stuff this way, especially if I let a few days lapse. But, since I'm just addicted to the MM, that's a rare occurrence.

                            Mark Lenard would be proud.

Thanks, all! I got to meet Mark Leonard at a convention back during my college years. A gracious but reserved man, which a huge amount of dignity in the face of the convention silliness. I took a STTMP bubble gum card of his Klingon to be autographed, and he was surprised anyone knew he had that part. He talked about being the only Trek actor to play all three races. I said his Romulan Commander was my favorite of his Trek roles (although I bought a Sarek picture for him to autograph), and he said he was particularly proud of that one, since the character had a strong nobility for being an 'enemy alien', and wasn't truly a villian, so it was a very interesting role.
