Dollar store find: Mego sized rifles!

    Hi Mego customizers!

Well, I've been on the hunt for accessories for Team Nabs! They've always been heavy Mego users, except for that little 30+ year hiatus while their owner "outgrew" toys!

Team Nabs needed some arms... you know, to enforce law and order in a lawless town in lawless times. So, the Owner started to troll toy stores, Target, Toys R Us, etc. but couldn't find anything quite scaled for them.

Then there was that fateful trip to the dollar store, and they had some crappy soldiers like this. 5" tall, hard plastic, barely articulated, badly proportioned (like a lot of action figures these days).

So, why would anyone here be interested? It's because crappy 5" soldiers came with slightly oversized (for them) rifles!

The bottom one is sort-of an M4 carbine. The toy is 3.75 inches, while a real M4 is 33". So, by doing the math, the rifle is scaled about 1:9.... MEGO scale!

The 2nd from the bottom seems to be a MP5K machine pistol.

Top one is some variant of a MP5SD3, I think.

I haven't figured out what the 2nd from the top is yet.

So... customizing time! The rifles were originally silver, which didn't look right. So I spray-painted them black and then coated them with a semi-matte acrylic varnish.

Then I got some 5mm jump rings and drilled a few holes in rifles, and added elastic rifle slings.

We don't have to be THAT accurate... this is not a 1:6 military forum! This is just to have some fun.

It's nice to find some modern weaponry. There's tons of stuff in 1:6, but finding 1:9 these days for one dollar... who can say no?

No dog tags, but a load of accessories, some good, some crappy.

            Mego scale:
            .45 Automatic pistol
            .38 snubnose
            .357 magnum (long barrel)
            binoculars

            too-small-for-Mego:
            pineapple-style hand grenade
            canteen
some sort of spray canister (Mace? Bug spay?)
            bulletproof vests
            helmet
            beret

Now, back to the pistols... they are about 1" in length, which is about 1:9. Holsters weren't a problem, since I have a near-endless supply of thin black leather (from buying a black leather skirt at a thrift store for $4.00)

Belts and Sam Browne belts are also pretty easy to whip out at almost no cost.

Here's what the dollar store pistols look like on a Spooky Kooky. His head and hands are Mego scale, but his body proportioned like a cartoon. Which leaves him in the no-man's land between 1:18 and 1:9
