    Calling all head casters!

I need some advice guys, and gals.I hate to ask a dumb question, but I've never let it stop me before.
If I were to pour a head, and quickly put it into an air-tight box, then create a vacuum by sucking out the air with a vacuum cleaner hose, Would the air bubbles inside the liquid resin be removed?

No that won't work. It has to be a vacuum that can pull about 29 hg and vacuum cleaners won't do it. Best bet is a 5 or 6 cfm hvac pump, which u can probly get cheap on craigslist...

....just be careful asking for a pump on craigslist....

I've never used a vac setup for my molds; but I do use an injector. Works pretty good, and deosn't require the same level of technical expertise. (I'm kind of a luddite.)

What do you use for the injector? I'd love to do injection casting. I have a vacuum pump, but it's better for making silicone molds, not casting. I'd really like to make a pressure caster, but the pots I find are good up to about 20-30 pounds. I've read you need 40 pounds to work right.

You know Don, I would really like to know about your injection set-up too...

I'm planning on outfitting myself with a) a vacuum set-up, b) a roto-casting set up (I've found some interesting DIY youtube videos like this one, c) a pressure/heat press (like for t-shirt transfers) which I can outfit with custom plates for vinyl heat-pressing outfit patterns, and eventually d) an injection set-up.
I just have to find that rare wheat penny to pay for it all...

                Hmmmm....

I get them things you'd use when giving babies medicine.... they look like big syringes. Design the mold so that the tip fits into your pouring spout. For smaller moilds, you can fit one of them glue tips on.... the kind you'd put on a tube of Testor's glue to get a finer line of glue.

are the syringes a one time use or re-usable?

They're made of that food-grade plastic, so polyurethane resin doesn't stick; but they do wear out from the expanding/contracting/heating material. You can use 'em a couple dozen times though.
