Anybody have a good circle cutting out method??

HELP!!! I'm trying to replicate a emblem with pleather, and can NOT Get a good circle cut out doing it freehand. Is there a good tool out there? Or a good method??

Is there anything like a cutter that you use with a hammer to cut stuff out ( kind of like the things you get in tap and die sets )?

Try using a compass backwards....put the pencil end down in the middle and use the pointed end to score the material....

i was going to say the same thing. that or find some wooden circle's in the craft section that are the size you want and trace the outline then cut.

Put an exacto knife instead of the pencil with the blade faced at an angle.

Most craft and hobby stores carry circle cutters, kind of like a compass but with a blade where the pencil is, they are really good on thin material

I had to get a die punch for making circles for the transporter boxes I made. Heavy metal thing, hit it with a hammer, but they are one fixed size and fairly expensive. I think it cost $30 for a 1 1/4 circle punch. I've seen some mixed size sets online. The craft shop cutters are for paper mainly.

I realize that were probably talking about a tiny piece of material, but ... can you square that piece up, then fold it into quarters and cut an arc?

I know this sounds odd, but I cut small circles in fabric with a ball bearing and various sizes of washers and pipes. Put the fabric over the hole, set the ball bearing on top so that it's centered over the hole, and whack it with a hammer.

The circle I am trying to cut out is the size of a nickel. The problem is even a new exacto blade won't cut the pleather, it just kind of drags across it and rips it. An't idea is neat, if I can find a washer and bearing big enough.

Try folding the material in half and use scissors to cut out only half a circle.unfold the material and blammo perfect circle.

buy a piece of conduit the same diameter as the emblem. sharpen the end of the conduit with a grinder or a metal file. you have two options to cut the material. you can hit the other end with a hammer to cut the circle or you can slowly turn the conduit back and forth until it cuts through the material. the key is to use a spray adhesive and spray the back of the fabric to temporarily tack it to a piece of soft wood. this willhold the fabric in place and easily removable when you get the circle cut.
