I like Delta paints, which you can find at Michael's or JoAnne's, I find they are a little smoother than Folk Art...but that being said, I couldn't have done my most recent custom without Folk Art Gold Sheath.
Oh, and welcome to another AJ fan TM...great to see!
so model masters acrylics are okay? there alittle pricey but i have a bunch left over from my gijoe customs. as long as they are acrylics thats the important part...right.

Model and miniture acrylics are the best for softer plastic. Using enamel on soft plastic, creates a big mess.
i used model master acrylics on my first customs and I liked how they were self leveling... Only thing that bothered me is that they're a bit brittle.... I think they look great on simple megoey paint jobs.
I find delta to be the best brand of craft paint in terms of it's opaqueness and good coverage. However, like all craft paints, it sucks if you want to do a lot of color mixing.
I use liquitex matte basics paints a lot, which also have good coverage but mix better........ and u can use a liquid medium to thin them although they are pretty soft out of the tube.................
I think that Golden are the very best quality paints but they are probably more than the average customizer wants to pay..... They have a new matte fluid line of paints too, which I have yet to try.
The Games Workshop stuff is great, but expensive. There are lots of similar ones though. Check out the nearest gaming/hobby store. Or if worst comes to worst:
