    Restringing/Repairing EMCE bodies

    Long-time lurker, first-time poster...

I'm just getting around to opening up some EMCE Apes figures for some simple customs, and I'm running into problems with the bodies. The arms are very tight to the point of not being able to hold a pose/being sucked into the torso. I tried the fix mentioned here:

    Restringing EMCE - Mego Talk

but that resulted in a cracked Gorilla Soldier torso. First, what's the best way to fit the torso halves back together? Crazy glue? Second, what's the best elastic to use to restring these? I'm not a fan of the rubber-band construction used by the factory, and it's stretched out the shoulder loops on every figure I've looked at so far -- I assume it's only a matter of time before those snap, too.

I've looked at a few restringing tutorials, but I'm wondering if anyone has specific recommendations for elastic or other restringing materials -- something readily available at Jo-Ann Fabrics, Walmart, etc. would be preferable.

    Thanks in advance!

They Do have stretch String at Walmart ..., it's in the sewing section next to the scissors.
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

I would go with shock cord that you can find at camping stores. 1/8". Durable and long lasting. I like how it pulls the together the bodies.
Check our local Surplus or camping store, they usually carry it.
This is the place I buy it from:
      Elastic
Also, this place has the best nylon and other outdoor materials since this is what they specialize in. Very unique stuff and the staff is helpful.

Be nice if EMCE could correct this problem, it really puts them right up there with Mattel and CTVT in the quality department.

Welcome to the museum Paddy Fitz! I'd glue the bodies with super glue gel. Not runny at all.

Thanks for the tips! I'll keep an eye out for the shock cord -- that sounds like the most durable solution. In the meantime I was able to repair the broken Dr. Mego body with super glue, and repositioned the rubber bands so the shoulders aren't so tight.

I got a few Castaway bodies to swap out for the useless Mattel Retro Action bodies, and I have to say, they seem to be the highest-quality bodies out there -- I might just replace all of the Dr. Mego junk with Castaway.
