I know I'm a little all over the board, what with the star trek and apes and avengers I'm working on but...............Now I'm working on a John Byrne Nightcrawler. Here's the question...I salways see NC customs with black hair but didn't he actually have blue hair and the black was shadows from the artist? What do you think, Black hair or whole face/hair the same blue. Get back with me I'm painting lol.

I happen to love nightcrawler and will be working on a john byrne nightcrawler custom myself-I would use a testors flat sea blue-Which is a great navy blue and dry brush flat black(or use a paint wash,Whichever you prefer) into the hair-Make all the hair look "shadowy"

I went with 3 different Blues ..., and Black .. I think.
Black for the Basis of the hair..., with a couple of shades of real dark blue in there..., then a Blue for the Face ..., with Blue shading for the Lips.., and inside of the ears..., then Black for the eyebrows, and triangles under the eyes. ... I dunno, that's what I did. Colors are a tad darker in person.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

I did this one a few years back and employed the same muti-tone effects so I think you're on the right trac

Hmmmm....
It's tricky, since I THINK he's supposed to be a velvety black and the blue is used for hilights. (Like Superman's hair.) But if you just paint then velevery black they never look right. The layers of dark blues work really well, and replicate the comic effect spectacularly.

Black and drybrush it with blue to bring out the sculpting of the hair. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

I've gone and talken all the great advice...Thanks fellow customizers. I also looked at the Byrne x-men comics and even looked at retail figures throught time on ebay. I thought he was all blue with black being the highlights and shadows. I've also heard all black with blue highlights and shadows. I've also seen Byrne having him with white eyes one panel and yellow eyes the next(Gotta love comic books). I then go into MEGO MODE!! what would have been the 70's toy way. I cast heads so I guess I'm going to do a few basic variants and hopefully my fellow customizers will vote. Sounds fun don't it.Comment
