You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks -
Are you kidding? Make it gray because why? Because it was lavender to look gray on TV? Whatever! The costume was lavender, purple and navy. That's the way they wanted it to look. It just didn't look as colorful as they wanted. If you want it to look original it needs to be lavender, if not then it should be gray to look like all the other incorrect customs. Unless you are afraid lavender is "gay"...Comment

I say. If you are making him as you remember seeing him on TV. Then grey. But if you are going for a historically accurate thing then lavender. Both would be cool also. Like the George Reeve Superman someone did. They had color and black and white versions.Comment

Besides, where did this lavender story come from? The suit was grey with navy blue shorts, cape, gloves, boots and cowl. They didn't want a more colorful look, where do you get that?

I may have been wrong about the gray, but you are more wrong with your Navy blue assessment.
It must be all the shine of the purple(that you mistakenly call navy blue) that makes the gray look lavender. I guess the costume I saw at the museum in California had a fake costume that was lavender. Or it sure looked that way to me. But then again, I thought the Robin costume there looked different from the one from the show. I just figured it was from a costume style change on the show.
I'm sorry I misled everyone to think it was lavender....
But them again, I look at pictures on the internet and lots and lots of them look like he is wearing lavender...Comment

I think they made a few changes to the costumes over the course of the series.Last edited by LonnieFisher; Apr 11, '10, 1:43 PM.Comment

Um...I thought it was lavender as well. My licensed Batman radio had a purple chest for some reason....or at least I thought it did...even when I do Filmation cartoon repros I always add some purple to Bats' suit.Comment

Whatever Lonnie... Yeah, we all made incorrect customs...

It says purple not navy blue for most of these pieces. Try to be more accurate when explaining how wrong somebody else is. It makes you look less "know it all", if you know what I mean.

Try to think before you run your mouth like that, makes you look less "like an ***", if you know what I mean"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

They're describing the condition of the original suit as it looks now. Do you really think that's what it looked like 40 years ago? And as you can see the cape is still blue, for some reason the cape hasn't faded"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

Adam West remembers it's purple. Here's a pic. Look at the color of the cowl.
Meule, you're wrong about so much, and here are some pictures of the costume that are purple. Not the navy you claim. So try not to call me an *** when you're in the wrong. It's funny you have such a problem with me. You're always being a dick to me for some reason...Last edited by LonnieFisher; Apr 11, '10, 6:25 PM.Comment

Honestly, those pix look like slightly different shades of dark blue to me, with gray tights. In the photos, and even in good TV prints, one can see that there is a variation in the tones of the cowl and the cape--but I would not call the satin used "purple." Blue-violet at the most, and that's stretching it.
Compare the lavender tones of the series' Riddler accessories, the purple Penguin's top hat & bow tie and Batgirl's later suit, the magenta of Joker's tuxedo. In comparison, Batman certainly looks blue.
Also, remember that colors may have been tweaked for early color television. Romero's Joker wig was made progressively more garish to get it to register a proper green on film. In some episodes, it's kind of olive...WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment
