Anyone Ever Make a Mego-Size Kilt?

    Hi,
Has anyone tried their hand at making a Mego-scale kilt? My sewing skills ain't up to the task, but I'd be interested in buying one if possible.

I'm after a Mego sized Kilt for a custom too but haven't found any material with the right scale pattern.

Your best bet is to get hold of a 8" Peggy Nisbett Scottish doll and use the kilt from that, i've got my eye on a couple at the moment.

Alternatively, try Austin he might be able to print you some up.

Are you just looking for a plaid skirt, or are you looking for an authentic kilt, with the pleats just folded in and the excess draped over the shoulder? I bought a Dinah Mite on eBay once and she came with a plaid skirt that would work pretty well. I've made human-sized kilts before, so if you give me some ideas about what kind of plaid pattern you want, I could do it.

I'm needing a kilt for a male Mego body, so Dinah-Mite clothes probably won't work. I'm not needing any particular clan tartan, just something with a design small enough that it looks right on a Mego figure. If you can help, great!

I'll make one in regular fabric so you can see how it fits, and then we'll work on finding a small enough plaid, ok? What is the main color in the plaid this character wore? Also, is it the basic knee-length kilt or do you want a great kilt that reaches almost to the floor? (Sorry, I helped do costumes for "Brigadoon" in college, so I've spents lots of time around kilts. I've even made them for friends to wear to Renn-Faires.) If you could pm me some links to reference pics, I'll start looking around.

Ok, I threw something together, and it looks about right. I'm going to finish stitching it together tonight after work. I should be able to get pics either tonight or tomorrow.

If you're good at photoshop, you could design a kilt pattern and print it on inkjet compatible fabric. I've had good luck designing my own emblems and costumes using the inkjet fabric.

                          Yeah, that's the fella.
I'm after a basic knee length kilt, not 100% sure of the colour as the episodes were in black and white but i think it was Red.

The proper tartan for McCrimmon is MacLeod of Harris (I'm assuming ancient rather than modern), but tartans weren't associated with specific clans until a century after Jamie McCrimmon's time. Before then, men wore whatever pattern they liked.

For whoever was doing the Jamie McCrimmon custom, I found this site that offers a Jacobean outfit. I know it's probably a more modern look, but I would imagine it's still similar. (Sorry, didn't get to do too much kilt research today.) Between that and the little pic of the character I posted, it looks like they wore blousey-looking shirts, so you might want to look into some Mego-scale(or just a little bigger) ladies' blouses. The small picture wasn't very clear in that earlier link, but it does look like he was wearing something over his shirt, probably for cold weather. I also noticed that this style of kilt doesn't appear to have a lot of pleating, so it won't take as long to do. It's basically wrapped around the waist a few times and held on with a belt. Here's a link to a shop that is selling real-size kilts in that style:
Jacobean Kilt Outfits | Scottish gifts, kilts and accessories

For whoever else was looking for one, I did a quick practice run earlier. I just tacked the pleats down and ironed them. Keep in mind that I would need to hem it a little better and do the pleats more evenly. Also, from what I've read, kilts are traditionally folded and wrapped, and not sewn. I would still stitch everything down for a custom. Some kilts also have kind of a sash. That is actually just a longer piece of fabric, with the excess after wrapping being thrown over the shoulder. I will have post pics in a few minutes.
