Paint to match the gloss of original MEGO horse paint?

Is there any type of paint available that comes close to having the same look (sheen) as the paint they used on the horses? I want to repaint the mane and tail of one of my horses to a different color and I'd like it to have at least somewhat of the same look the original paint had... I painted it with some of the paint from Walmart but it looked too flat on the plastic body... Any suggestions?

You might have to even out the whole sheen by using a clear gloss varnish.

I think I should have been more specific... I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a brand of paint that is somewhat glossy so (when dry) it might have about the same sheen as the MEGO horses... As I said, the acrylic paint I used was too "flat" compared to the body of the horse and I'm trying to get it to look more like an original paint job..

I use tamiya acrylics. they go on glossy and dry glossy. I usually knock the gloss off with a matte finish sealant. I think they would work great for what you need. You should be able to get them at any hobby store or do a google search for them online.

I would try a spray paint, you would have to do some taping off.Krylon makes a good spray paint for plastic. If you dont wanna go the spray route,Krylon also makes a good brush on enamel that is available in "gloss".
