    pattern question

    Hi,

Is there anyone out there that is good with illustrator? I have a pattern I am working on but cannot for the life of me get symmetrical patterns done correctly by hand. I have a pattern and was wondering if someone could take a scan and create one. It's for a Modern GL Hal Jordan. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmmm.... I usually fold the paper and go off one side when I cut.

Thanks don but the problem for me is getting the curves at the underarms to be the same size and then have each one curve to ...well not an exact point (that makes the sewing harder) but to a sharper curve at the shoulders. If I knew how to vector or whatever the term is I could just design it to the specs I need. It's the pattern that is problematic for me.

On the pattern itself, those curves don't need to be exact. I have trouble with those on a sewing machine, so I do the rest of the suit and then handstitch the underarms and any other parts that need to be adjusted. And I guarantee that they're still not perfectly symmetrical, but you can't tell on the figures themselves. Heck, I've even owned some Mego suits as well as regular clothes that aren't always perfect.

Love your stitch work. I wish I could hand sew like that Well, I'll give it a shot. I think the pieces are too small for a machine so I guess I will teach myself a basic stitich.

          Thanks

Thanks! You can still do the straight parts on the machine if you really want to. Working with the stretchy material takes a little bit of practice. Handsewing takes a little more time when you first start, but the control is well worth it.

Any tips for a straight back-stitch? It seems for me that when I sew (especially around a curve) that the thread shows on the outside.

I don't know how to explain the basic stitch, but I can tell you that on stretchy fabric, small, tight stitches will work best.

Here's what looks like a decent tutorial with pics.

Thanks so much. It's a great site and very helpful. I'll go an practice now (right after I shovel 16 inches of wet snow)
