Here's a pic showing Falcon's original green and orange costume; in the upper right corner, you also get a preview pic of his new red & white costume that would debut in the next issue (though he wouldn't get his wings for another couple of years).
I was always going to do that rendition myself..!! I was never quite interested in the Mego Falcon as is (LOVED the character back when Sal Buscema drew 'em).
I didn't know about the original outfit myself until later in collecting. I saw the outfit as a single panel flashback in Marvel Team-Up #13, but thought it was just an error in coloring at the time.
I planned to create his original outfit when I had the Famous Covers Falcon, which would have been pretty easy using the stripped down Vision outfit as a base and painting the cowl. He was going to be after my original Wonderman, but I lost interest in the line after a while.
I kinda miss that one. He had the funky medalion that would always swing around. I cant remeber why he changed his colors but I do remeber why he got the wings.
Cap got some sort of Superhuman boost and Falcon felt inferior with his grappling claw shooting glove , so he wanted wings. Cap offered to get Tonty Stark to set him up but Falcon said he didnt want him to because he was white and went down to Wakanda and had the Balck Panther do it instead.
Thsi was back in the "jive Turkey this jive turkey that " days.
MAN I hated his girlfriend!!!!
STill with the Falcons brianwashed backstory he is one of the more interesting Marvel guys. I say again I wish he would have taken over as Captain America. I might still be reading it.

No instead they bring back teh DEAD side kick.
That was one of my most memorable story lines growing up. I was HUGE into Cap and Falc at that time. Steve Englehart's writing was inspired, and I'm blessed to be able to correspond with him last year via email about how I hung on every panel.
I have the issue with the green-to-white costume change, but there wasn't any clear, substantial reasoning for it, other than dialog from Sam stating he's FINALLY 'his own man' or some 'jive' like that.
Yep, I couldn't stand his girlfriend either
I hated the whole 'Frank Robbins' art/brainwashing story line. I gave up when Mr. Robbins came in.
