Mego heads survive the oven. bodies do not do so well. Melted hulk is no better than crumbly hulk. I like using air dry clay now. I have a crap load of sculpey I'm not using. Maybe I should try again.

I will post photos of T-Pau and T-Pring. They are definitely rock hard. I kinda left T-Pring too long in the oven (forgot to put the timer on to remind me to turn the oven off). I have read on the internet that the longer you bake the sculpey the harder and darker it will be.
This sword shows the various colors of the sculpey as it was baked in layers...The clay underneath the dark brown leather on the handle has been baked for 60 minutes (cumulative). The darkest colors (the crescent shape of the sword) was in the oven 40 minutes (cumulative)--the lightest colors were only in the oven for 20 minutes. I am attributing the dark color to the thickness of the sculpey.
But in your case, Bob, I would definitely use a 2-part air dry-medium. Read the directions to see how much time you have before it completely cures. I use Apoxie and let it cure for 30 minutes after I have mixed the two parts thoroughly because it's easier to work with at that stage. (won't stick to my fingers or the sculpting tools, and I can still use water to smooth down the surfaces).

>I found sculpey sucks. I don't like the way it crumbles after I cook it.
Hmmmm.... I use SUper Sculpey; works the same and seems to be a lot more forgiving when cooked. I also use a toaster oven for all my Sculpey cooking. (Dunno if that makes a dif.)

Toaster ovens and Sculpey can work together, but you have to remember to watch it carefully. It can burn easily and the fumes I am sure are dangerous.
I keep trying new things until I find something that works.Last edited by jessica; Jan 12, '10, 7:40 PM.Those who look outside dream. Those who look within awake.

I've burned a few, but since I use 'em for masters and not finished products it doesn't bother me so much. I've heard the fumes are bad for you; but I think you'd have to look at concentration. One or two heads a year, not such a problem. I use the toaster oven 'cos I make quite a few things.
