Have you ever dyed a flesh tone body part?

I was curious to know if anyone has attempted to dye a flesh tone body part from a classic mego body.
I want jet black colored T1 hands and have plenty to hands to dye. Before I embark on the this venture, I was curious what the outcome might be?
I prefer not to paint and seal but rather make it more production looking than a model paint job.
Would it come out grey or light black? Should I dye purple hands since they are a darker tone?
    Thank you

    Hmmmm....

Plastic doesn't take dyes so good. A few folks have had luck doing it, but I've found the colours aren't true. You can start with a darker shade of what you want, and it helps; but there really isn't a darker black. Yeah; they'd probably end up a medium grey colour. Paint, and/or repro parts are your best bets.

If I were you, I'd just pick up a pair of black hands from CTVT, they are only 2 bucks a pair and no work needed.
      ALL HAIL MING!

        Hap,
I have a pair in black from CTVT, the type 2 hands and they were okay. Not like the original mego black hands.
However, I'm seeking to make type 1 hands since I like the working with the type 1 bodies. Look better and slimmer IMO. Not into the bulk, not sleek enough.
Plus I want the retro look as well of the type 1.

        Thanks

        E

Lili Ledy hands are rubbery, so you could try to dye a pair of those.

I just dyed 8 pair of Type 1 hands in black and they came out great. They aren't jet black but more like a midnight black/dark grey. They look great. Glad I did it. Now I can finish my retro customs.
I have spares if anyone is interested.

They turned out really well! Thanks for the pic. I might try that instead of painting them next time.

I look forward to seeing the completed figure too.

I used the RIT dye powder form. Next time I want to go with the liquid to avoid clumps of dye.
The first boiled the hands until they were hot and pulled them out to breathe until I lowered the flame to simmer and poured the dye in the pot. Stirred up the contents with a chopstick then dumped the hands. Since they were free floating it was easy to keep them consistent. Next time I would use a colander to keep it stable.
Had another pot with cold water handy and just dumped the hands after 15 minutes and washed off and put on a paper napkin to dab and dry off excess dye.
The amount I used was one packet of powder with 4 cups of water.
If you want to make the best of the dye try, dying other parts as well. I would stay away from the pelvis since it will shrink. Learned the hard way and lost two T1 pelvis.
It was pretty easy but messy.
I'm letting the water evaporate naturally so the dye sticks to the pot. I don't want to dump it in the sewer.
