Replacement Chest Decals and casting in silver

My wife gave me some Star Trek EMCE action figures for Christmas. I had been eyeing them the last couple of years. I now have Kirk, McCoy, Spock, Scotty, the Klingon, the Romulan, the Andorian and the Gorn. I am currently working on casting my own phasers and disruptors. I also had some fabric silk screened for my Romulan and Klingon costumes, which won't be ready until after this weekend.

    Anyway, I have two questions.

Has anyone used the replacement decals offered by cutlman's tv hobbyshop? To be more specific how do you remove the silver trek emblem and replace it with the new decal? Any tips?

Also, I am want to cast my disruptors either in silver or grey, but don't have any silver or grey dye. I tried spraying the molds with spray paint, but it only covered the outer layer of the resin. Again, any tips would be appreciated.

PS I am kind of embarrassed I originally posted this under completed customs by accident.

your better off , getting a NEW shirt from Dr. mego, he has the shirts without the emblems
      there cheap.
Deglueing i found that a damp rag(not wet) with acetone on the reverse side works ,I also use it to clean the residue glue from a shirt.
again a damp (white cloth) not soaked wet acetone.
let the cleaning rag sit for a moment and feel a hint of acetone instead of a wet rag.

        Hmmmm....

I've heard good things about the replacement stickers. A while back I got one of them "Join CAA" packs, with sicker, and I've been chopping up the sticker for emblems and such. (I fabric glue 'em on though.)

It's tough to cast something in silver, since there isn't really a silver dye. (Or paint.) You get kind of a shiny grey. I have a spray silver that's pretty close; but dull. I use it for my disruptors since the ones on the show were kindv'e a dull silver. (Testor's aluminum works too; but it's a thick paint.)

Thanks for the tips. I plan to make an order in a couple of weeks and will order some more shirts.

CTC, spraying may be the way to go.

I was looking at alimilite's web site for dyes and they offer a metalic silver powder that you place in the mold before casting. I may give that a try one day.

I'm curious, has anyone embroidered the emblem onto the chests instead of using the adhesive? My wife has an embroidery machine and I was wondering if maybe there was a downloadable pattern out there somewhere.

you can also get aluminium powder to use as a filler, and buff the casting up to give you a look simillar to a coin, I haven't tried it but it is supposed to work really well

It should depend of the resin. If you use a Polyurethane 50/50 mix ratio version, is hard to get the silver right. If you don't use a proper tint, it might work against the chemical reaction, and most 'authorized' tints out there end up showing dull. If you go for a Polyester resin with a catalizer 10-90 mix ratio, you have a lot more chances to get a vivid silver. With Polyester you can actually use any silver you'd like (From acrylics to oils, Tamiya, Testors, Games Workshop, or whatever brand you prefer) and it accepts a fair 20-30% of paint in the mix, without disrupting the reaction...
