That was always the thing with Charlee, even from the beginning. He was never going for "mego-esque". He always wanted to take them a step further, especially in the detail of the outfits and accessories. And I think he did. I know Charlees work isn't for everybody, but then again, neither is any customizers. I personally love them. One of the last boxes I was working on was a Jack of Hearts. I could have sworn he was working on a head for it.

I remember first seeing Flatt's work in Model and Toy Collector magazine. I was floored. My take on his stuff was that it was Mego-inspired with a modern aesthetic. He really thought about how the comic characters would translate into a 3-dimensional, 8 inch figure.
I try to keep things Megoesque myself, but I can definitely and appreciate and admire Flatt's work. Groundbreaking stuff for customizing.
I didn't realize you made those boxes Scott. They were killer, and VERY-Megoesque!!!

Funny you mentioned the Jack of Hearts, Scott. This was the figure Charlee and I were discussing at the FX show in '06. He saw my printed suits and was interested in getting some help with a pattern for the JoH.
For me personally, I would say Charlie Flatt is like the Elvis of the mego custom world and Dr. Mego would be the Beatles.
These two guys are responsible for breakthroughs and ideas that started a whole world of mego collectors into customizing and collecting.
Adding Brian Leitner into the mix and you pretty much summed it up for why I got back into the mego customizing business and filed my crappy Famous Cover figures into a storage box.
