    sew on sleeves or no?

I've started making plans to make a custom Riddler. I'm making him in the style of the Arkham Asylum game. I found a good jacket pattern in CustoMego which I'll need to alter to make the jacket longer. I was wondering though, because I'm still a newb at sewing, should I also alter it to make the sleeves part of the body or should I make them sewn on like the pattern already is? Which would be easier?

If your new at sewing try the one piece method first.
You have a variable speed sewing machine? the slower speed will help you stitch (light weight )thin fabrics correctly.
use light duty Nylon thread .
double stitch or overstitch the ends this will lock the treads and prevent them from unstitching

Thanks for the good advice. I'll try a one piece first to save on a headache. I'm going to go look for some material today. I'm thinking shiny green or something very lime.

Here is a pic of what I'd like to do:

I think sewing the sleeves on would be easier ... you can get your size all worked out doing it this way, then fit the inner suit accordingly. Making these Types of Suits, your Obviously gonna want little room for mistakes because this isn't spandex or Lacra Material. Just my Take.

^^ I agree. And sewn on sleeves for a "tailored" suit like that will look WAY better.

An amazing sale at Fabric Land here in town got me a lot of green material to play with. I was aiming at doing one custom a month and really taking my time and learning so I'm in no rush. My sister-in-law gave me her old sewing machine and I'm practicing on scraps with that first.

Set-in ("sewn") sleeves are more difficult but will look & fit much better for what you want.

Oh, its a suit coat. Sewn on sleves then, the one piece look is better for bodysuits.

                      Hmmmm....

Yeah; for something like that I'd go with sewn on sleeves. I'd do some overlap and sew with a ladder stitch; it'll make the seams a little thicker and give it that rigid shoulder look.
