How can I use pencils,pens,colored pencils,and sketch pads to create my very own custom super hero action figure cardbacks?

This seems like a very open ended question. The very little bit I have done for card back, header tag, and box making has all been CAD on my laptop and then printed. I can’t imagine doing this sort of design on analog paper.
