    Joann Fabric

If you haven't heard, Joann is going through bankruptcy and facing pretty significant store closures.

Joann, the embattled fabric and craft store, announced plans to close over 500 locations. Court documents show which ones - see the full list here.

In the short-term, you may want to take advantage of closeout deals.

In the long-term, this is going to be painful for customizers. Sure there will be online options... but for a lot of my customs, I would never have found the right fabric if I couldn't physically examine it.

Luckily so far, my local store is not closing but wow that really sucks. Great store been going there since I was little.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Like I said in my post above, the local stores weren't on their list of closing stores, *however*, according to this evenings news, *ALL* Joann's stores are closing now.

I'll echo your evening news report. It was reported today locally that the company was bought at auction and that all stores will be closed. Hate that for everyone, especially the employees.

            Hello, all. Longtime lurker here.

I’ve been hitting local Joann stores trying to stockpile Jet Set.

Before I start in on the not-so-local ones, does anyone know of any other sources of Jet Set or a viable alternative? (I did read in another thread that store-bought Halloween costumes are often made out of it.)

My daughter loved to shop at JoAnn's for crochet supplies. The store near us was always busy, so it's suprising to hear the whole chain is going out of business. I feel for the employees too.

That sucks. It's a great store. I will miss it.

Thats crummy news for sure. The closest one to me was about 30 minutes away, I have some star trek custom figures wearing Joann fabric patterns.

I never even heard Joann Fabric until the news of the store closings broke. I shop at Michael's and, in a pinch, Walmart. There's a Hobby Lobby about 20-25 minutes away from me but I've never been there.

The first time I went into a Joann was about two weeks ago. (I have yet to actually sew my own costumes, but I became paranoid about not being able to get the “correct” fabric when/if I do.)

I met kind and helpful employees and friendly customers at every location I went to and now I’m sad for those people and bummed it’s all going away. >.<

Also most of those stores were crowded as heck when I was there. How is this not a viable business?

They only started restocking the jet set knit in a decent variety like a year or so ago. This was really bad news, though not as bad as it obviously is for the folks losing their jobs there.

Scott, you’re hugely responsible for me going crazy trying to find this stuff. I wanna be just like you when I grow up.

                          (I’m 44.)

They seem to all be closing and just a reminder JoAnn carries resin and sculpey and acrylic paint and even Legos and models

I ran in there tonight:: * A lot* of empty spaces where merchandise used to be. The craft paints were almost all sold out.
