    can you dye a body?

I thought I saw a thread a while back about dyeing a body using Rit dye, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I need a fat body with an African American skin tone. As far as I know, Mego never made one, and nobody sells a repro version that is non-caucasian.

So is dyeing the way to go? If so, does anyone have a "recipe" for getting good results?

Paul Clark's bodies are made to be dyed. Just unstring them first, and put them into a pot of bubbling brown dye in a pot that is ONLY used for that purpose.

I don't remember the exact ratin of water to dye, but for a small object like that I don't think you need either an entire bottle or packet of dye.

There are others on this board who have more experience than I do. Give them a chance, and they'll answer all of your questions.

          Hmmmm....

If you're dyeing a DocBod you might have to paint the torso. It's a different kind of plastic and doesn't take dye so good. (It DOES take paint though.) I've heard of people dyeing CTVT and Mego bodies, but they tend to not take dye so good either.

I THOUGHT CTVT made one. If you don't mid the extra effort, I'd get one of those and restring it, and/or replace the limbs with appropriate Mego or Doc ones.

Usually the white bodies are the ones that work best for dying. I believe Paul was or used to have a bunch of dyed bodies he was selling.

Oops, you are right, CTVT does make one. That makes things considerably easier. I'll order one, and restring/replace parts as necessary.

I do appreciate all the advice. You guys are the best.

I've never tried dyeing a body, but if you guys say it'll work I'll give it a go as well

I've never tried it, but people here have done it.
