>Hmm...I'm all ears
If you're colouring leather; such as airbrushing your gang logo onto a jacket, you first dry out the material with rubbing alcohol. This'll usually mute the colour too. When painting, use the catalyst! You'll probably have to track down a dedicated airbrush store to get it; it's a special fixative that strengthens the paint. Neccessary, since most airbrush paints are EXTREMELY fragile.
Let it dry thoroughly. Then you massage in baby oil to make the leather pliable again.
Going from black to purple shouldn't be a problem; 'specially if you're going with a darker purple. If you're gonna try this, I'd recommend doing a test first; like a sample of the material you're using or a second item. (I'm not sure how well this technique scales; smaller leather goods might get dried out completely and be wrecked.)

OK, while we're on the subject of dying vinyl, some people on here have dyed Castaway parts with Rit dye I think they said. I would use vinyl paint but can't find yellow. The stuff I tried that's for plastic never dries on vinyl....grrrrrr.
I tried using RIT to dye some hands yellow, but they only changed color a little bit and looked like crap. Can anyone recommend a better dye or process? Maybe I had it too thinned out."Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."Comment

Hmmmm.... are you trying to dye bodies or heads? Vinyl dye won't work on bodies, boots, etc. Those are made out of a self-oiling plastic. (Is that the term?) Paint won't stick so good, and dye won't soak in. That's why the hands wouldn't change colour that much: they can't absorb enough dye. The vinyl paint works like a dye, it soaks into the material. It works amazingly well on heads 'cos it soaks into the softer, more porous plastic.
Sometimes if you go a step or two darker on the chroma scale you can get a good dye effect.... but you can't go darker so much with yellow.
And proper vinyl paint can be had at automotive customizing stores. It's used to paint interiors.

^^^^ Someone here did dye CTVT bodies with RIT dye. Doc Mego's bodies take dye pretty well, I have a white one that was dyed green by Merlyn. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

That was me I've dyed several CTVT Bodies with Rit Fabric Dye(I got the idea from Doc Mego,on his site he offers custom color bodies, which he dyes with Rit Fabric dye). The bodies I dyed all came out great, except for the female body(the arms would not take the dye very well compared to the rest of the figure & I had to boil her too long in the dye and her feet started to melt).Comment

I'm trying to do some castaway hands. Nothing has worked well. I tried the automotive stores, but no luck on the yellow. I guess I can try to find it online. I just didn't really want to order it."Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."Comment
