I've ben doing the same thing now for several years as I work in a sign shop.
I use adobe Illustrator and a plotter rip.

That's how I make all of my vinly decals. Well that's how I used to do it: cut each color of vinly and build the layers. Some times I still have to do it that way. But 95% of my decals are printed on 6 year UV outdoor grade white vinly and then contour cut. I've been in the sign business for over 15 years. Some times I dream about this stuff.

If you need any vinyl tips; like the best place to purchase vinyl or which vinyls are the better grade to use and stuff, just drop me aline.

You say this is offered at the trade school? I clicked the link. That looks to be a fine school. I only see one thing missing from the courses: The business courses for each trade they offer. This answers a question a fellow sign maker and I have been asking each other for a couple years now. We've wondered where all of these little sign shop people have been coming from. We didn't know that it's taught at some trade schools. Here's one tip that they won't give you, don't quit your day job. The sign industry has taken a hit just like everything else. It's ups and downs are just like construction work: the winter/cold months are the slowest. I've worked for several different sign companies over the years. FastSigns is one of them. It's never easy even when you have good customers. Not trying to be a smartass, just telling the truth.
