    Fabric dye

I have a yellow Mego-scale jacket (an old Super Joe hoodie, to be specific) that I want to dye red. Sounds like Rit dye is the way to go here, but I have never dyed anything before, and I am worried about ruining the piece. Any pointers? Is it so easy that even a novice like me should be able to do it?

Most of the stuff I have read online is understandably geared towards much larger items... so I'm not sure how applicable they are.

Also... the hoodie drawstrings... should I just concede that they are going to get turned red, or does anyone have any tips how to keep them untouched?

All advice appreciated. I think there was a similar thread here not too long ago about this, but I can't seem to find it... if this has all been covered elsewhere, please just point me in the right direction.

    Hmmmm....

Assuming the material will take the dye, it'll mix with the original colour. So you'll either end up with a dilluted yellow piece, or an orange one.

Some Material doesn't take Dye to well ... , it depends on the material.... It's funny stuff. I do not think the Draw Strings will take the Dye. They sound like they will come out Pink.

Rite Dye only costs like 3 Bucks for a little box of it...
Go Give it a shot, Pratice on something 1st.

Weren't all of the action figure outfits made of acrylic, or nylon and other stuff like that?

According to some of my friends on other customizing boards, fabrics like nylon, acrylic and the like do NOT take dye very well, if at all.

Natural fibers take dye very well, depending upon the fabric, and the dye used.

If the dye doesn't work, use a magic marker! LOL!

Doesn't CTVT have different colored hoodies?

They do, and I considered that... but it is going on a female figure, and I think the CTVT hoodie is a bit too bulky. I don't want to lose the feminine shape. Also, the Super Joe hoodie is a zipper hoodie style, which is more the look I am going for. I actually thought about converting a Married With Children jogging suit... but that would still require dying, of course. Sounds like I may have to experiment.

^^^ Turn the CTVT hoodie inside out and resew it tighter. Then you just cut off the excess material.
