Sadly a mild test did not work. Yes it did matte the hair down further which is good, however it also looks like the blue bird of happiness took a dump on him (see pic).

I just came back from Michaels with a can of Krylon semi-gloss white spray paint. This should go over better than using a brush

the spray paint method worked much better. It also sometimes "beaded up" to look like he was covered with some snow as well. Right now the remainder of his drying is outside since even with fans and a window open the fumes were too much. Update pic later--

ok here are front and back pics. Once it fully dries for 24hr, will hit it up again, but I like the way this is looking.

There are some very useful tips in this thread, I guess necessity is the mother of invention.

He's looking really good and I am looking forward to seeing the end results.

Thanks! I hit him up again with another coat of spray paint last night. After this will figure out what move to make next

it has been a while, but he is done:

after a disgustingly high number of paint coats consisting of acrylic, various white spray paints, fake snow spray and a sealer, here is my Snowbeast monster thing--enjoy

Wow he looks super creepy! He looks way better with the white than with just the black fur.

Thank you! If I ever do another one I now know to use way less fake fur and how to make him look like he is covered in muck

I agree, considering the huge amount of paint on him it seemed to work out well in the end

                          BINGO!!!!!
I did the vest for a custom by mixing acrylic paint with water, and brushing it on GENTLY. meaning use the brush on paper first, until its almost dry, then run it over the fur. you will get a better mud like appearance gradually increasing the layers. multiple coats here folks, otherwise it will get gloppy....
