New here - Star Trek Megos

    Hello,

I just joiend today. I collect strictly Mego Star Trek and I have had all of the 8" classic bridge crew and the Klingon for years both loose/complete and on mint cards. In fact, I had Shatner, Nimoy and Nichelle Nichols sign their MEGO figure cards over the last 6 years or so at various conventions.

I also have all but the 3.75" aliens from ST:TMP and I have the 12" figures all mint in near mint to mint boxes but of course, all of the figures' faces have turned blue....

Anyway, I came across Dr. Mego a few years ago and from him, acquired the parts to make a "Mego" Sulu and Chekov to complete the bridge crew and also a repro Mego Romulan since I could never afford the original even loose.

Then when Diamond Select came out with their repros, I snagged the Andorian. I was going to snag the Gorn since they improved it over the original but since I already have the 12" Playmates Gorn, I decided against it.

Sorry for rambling. What do you folks out there think of Dr. Mego's stuff? I know he used the Playmates 9" figure heads, shrunk them down and cast them in resin to get them in 8" scale.

Honestly, the likenesses that Diamond Select came out with for Sulu and Chekov were not so great vs. Dr. Mego although the Chekov looks a bit like Willem DaFoe.

Now I also lost track of Diamond Select's Mego-style Khan. Did that ever come out? I am on their site a lot as I buy many of their Art Asylum-style Trek figures and I never saw Khan mentioned except as a News flash last year. I don't see him on their Retro Figures page.

    Thanks!
    Phil

DST actually has a company called EMCE (pronounced MC) make there Mego styled figures and Dr. Mego is EMCE and the way it sounds is that EMCE is going to officially be MEGO soon if not already! I love Docs products! And yes Khan came out but only as an exclusive.

Diamond/Emce's Gorn, Kahn, Sulu and Chekov were all sculpted by Mego Museum member James Brady.

I think he did a smashing job

No comparison to Playmates lifeless sculpts

Yes, I love Doc's work and I love the fact that DST has given new birth to the Mego figures with EMCE.

I love the DST/Art Asylum figures and as each one comes out, I replace the earlier Playmates version by selling it off or giving it away and putting the AA/DST version in its place on my shelf.

I will track down the MEGO Khan, then. Sometimes I get busy with stuff and some collectibles slip my attention. I am anxious for the Star Trek IV Kirk and Spock that is due out tomorrow (according to the DST site) and the Salt Vampire in September.

I loved the Amok Time, STTMP and Worf/Gowron two packs. All nicely done. The STII figures were nice although some likenesses were off. FINALLY, someone made Capt. Terell! That was a good instance of replacing the Playmates versions of Saavik and Khan with the AA/DST versions.

I was disappointed when DST cancelled the STIII Kruge and Maltz set. I really wanted that set!

Welcome aboard, Ghostwriter71. I only collect Mego Trek figures now with Emce producing them. Prior to that I had what I had as a kid and that was mostly Trek. I've recently sold most of my non-Trek megos. I had hoped to do a Trek movie with them at one time but I'm not sure about that now.

I may also have a Khan for sale if you can't find one. Doc Mego has them on his site though as well. I'd say get Khan from him if you can.

Also, you may want to check out the DeSalle head available here
                              http://megomuseum.com/community/show...rek+fan&page=8

And go sign in on a thread I started to count (the at least 39) folks like us
                              http://megomuseum.com/community/showthread.php?t=26192

And after looking at your site, I will PM or email you about a custom Enterprise Model. I don't see that you take commissions but you may be able to help me. I am looking for a way to get a STII era Enterprise painted as the USS Argonaut with a Hull number I'll have to go look up. But I'll PM you.

Ivaniski is also looking for decals for the Original Shuttlecraft Galileo if you know where he can find those.

I also have some pix in the gallery and some at photobucket.

This may be the most interesting one
The most interesting ones are probably here in the Gallery now though if you go browsing.

And here is a link to the Toyfare article about the possilble rebirth of Mego itself
