Your WEEKEND ASSIGNMENT!!! if you chose.

How was that title. Kinda made you feel back in High School Huh?
Putting this out there before I go to work tonite (BOO) and Yunz start the Holiday weekend!!! (Yeah)
This is a chair solution I fell into and wanted to share. Dont worry its cheap and no great skills are required (Its from me remember!!!) The big thing is that a Dremmil tool helps on this. But I'm sure it can be done without.

Ok lets get into it. Found these at the Dollar Stores. The SCOOPS maybe harder to find (World of Value) but the shape is whats important. The mini Champagne glasses I found in alot of Dollar stores (Party suply).

Next I used the "Grinding Wheel" to remove the handle from the scoop and smooth it down. Then remove one end of the champagne glass or the other. Here I used the base. But using the cup end makes a taller seat. Leave as much of the stem as possible for your INSERT.

Next... I used a cone shaped grinding tip to burrow a slot for the stem. This is trial and err. Ya know? Grind alittle, try a fitting, Grind alittle more. Etc... If you do it right. You can get a fit that requires no glue!!! (Although dont feel bad if yunz gotta wip out the Superglue) The hole works best near the cup of the scoop as this is where the center of gravity seems to be.

Here is the final product. As is... its great for narrower female figures. For the male figures. A little removal of the side scoop walls is needed. I hope this gives some of yunz an idea. And you run with it.

    SAFETY CONCERNS!!! (Gotta add these)
This is GRINDING PLASTIC your doing here. Fumes will be released. So work in a well ventilated area. Use EYE PROTECTION. Flying bits of molten plastic will occcur!!! Dont show up for Mego Meet with no seeing eyedog!

          Update

So here is a quick add on. This photo shows Using the Champagne glass cup as the base. I did a ruff cut of the scoop sides to make it roomy for a male figure. This was done ruff and fast for demonstration purposes. But thats what I like in a project. Something that can be done fast and inexpensive.

The plastic cuts well with a grinding wheel/dremmil. A little exacto knifing to remove burrs and for smoothing also helps. I imagine, someone with the time could fashion this into a star trek style chair easily or go off in a totally different design style. Try it out and have fun!!!

Good point SpideyRogue... Sorry I forgot to mention. I use a variable speed dremmil on LOW with the cutting wheel. It dont take much to get this stuff cut. Also forgot to mention. The large scoop I used for the pictured chair. The intermediate sized scoop works well for the ladies. (I originally bought the scoops to use as cockpit canopys)

Wow. Cool. I wonder if they could be painted... Thank you. I may try that someday. I'm currently too novice a customizer to try this but it looks like a good one to start on when I get there and have the proper safety equipment.

                        Interesting!
Great ideas..and cheap to do! I'm looking at those little cups, and if you trim out one side a person could make those weird little bridge stools they used for the Phase II Enterprise bridge....before Robert Wise had them replaced with the plusher chairs for TMP.

That's a really cool idea. I guess I better start checking the dollar stores for some custom furniture ideas.
