Emcee vs Real Megos for Customs

    Alright, I need help.

Until today I had not bought a Repro figure to my knowledge.

All 7 of my Spocks and my Bones are all Original Megos I think. I bought them to make customs. Until Emcee, Spock was the best bet apparently because he was everywhere. At least in my experience.

So... now that I have 12 Emcee Scotty's en route, should put my Leslie/Thelin/DeSalle heads on Emcee Scotties or on Original Megos?

I'm not a collector. I'm going to play with these and make a movie or something.

I want to know if I may be better off selling or trading my Original Megos and using Emcees for my devious plans.

Let me know before it is too late and I desecrate 6 pretty fine looking Original Spocks for customs.

I don't know what Originals may be worth now or how to tell the difference. I'll check to see if Emcees are stamped on the neck to differentiate them from Megos.

When you cast a head, does the neck stamping get duplicated also? How can I tell if I have an Original Spock Mego or a customized repro?

I bought them all over 3 years ago I think it was. Before Diamond or Emcee had even spoken of cloth figures (to my knowledge), so unless they were prototypes, my Trek figures are all Original.

Did that make sense? I've slept about 3 hours in 2 days. I'm going to bed now.

    Make mine Mego!

P.S. I have stuff to trade or sell that is not Mego stuff, it is Trek stuff. Some Playmates, some trading cards maybe, some board and card games. Does our Sale thread work for this stuff or Mego like stuff only? I'll check. PM me if you have interest or comments on Trek stuff or watch for my Thread. Thank you all. I'm so excited. I'll have 14 or 15 Red Shirts on board by Memorial Day...

I wouldn't tear up OG megos if they look good and are in nice shape.
Based on your questions: I would try to use EMCEs for customs. Or you can pick up the bodies from Doc Mego for much less than an emce, but I suppose you want the accessories for the trek crew, so using the complete figure makes sense.
The reason I would try not to use OG stuff is that there is only a certain amount of it out there, and when it's gone, its gone. That said, I do have a bunch of OG Mego bodies I picked up in lots and stuff. Mostly I use the parts to re-build complete bodies, or replace thing like hands and feet or broken limbs on my original loose figures.

I don't cast stuff yet, so I can't help you there. I also don't use neck plugs anymore for the most part. The Stamp usually stays with the cast, but but can be filled with putty and sanded smooth if you don't like it.

Check the museum gallery for notes on telling OG's apart from Repros. If you really aren't sure, some of the guys here can tell you in about 4 seconds.

I would use the EMCE figures - I just recently got my first EMCE and thought it was weighted better, posed better and stood better than an original Mego. I know that's pretty blasphemous - but that's what I thought.

Mego bodies are marked on their backs - as are EMCEs - so unless you have scenes with naked characters I don't think anyone will be able to tell.

If the head was well cast all the details, including the copyright on the back of the neck could be duplicated - but EMCE remarks his. Has anyone ever rotocast vinyl Spock heads? Like you said, he's a pretty common figure - rotocast vinyl is super expensive - most custom guys just use hard resin.

Actually, FAO Schwarz has Scotties for $4.99. I just bought 10. There is an FAO Schwarz thread about this incredible deal.

Yes, I'll go through my collection again. I may sell my originals to some of you guys if you want them.

        Thanks for the feedback.

Emcee vs Real Megos for Customs........

I'd use the Emce stuff for Customs and the original stuff....I would keep as is.
However, No matter what you use ....enjoy yourself my friend and have fun with the kids. I'm my house W/three kids....I'm the biggest kid. Remember, When playing.... to put Captain kirk in the middle and have him yell out "Wolverine" and you'll see the entire security staff form a protective circle around that dude. Looks.... COOL !!!

What shirt is Kirk wearing? Is that a Doc Mego repro shirt? It does not look like an Emce shirt and it looks new.

I assume that is a Batmanguy decal. Those rule. I'm going to have to get some I'm sure.

All those shirt collars look original. Tell me where they came from. I don't like the Emcee collars but I may try to fix one and see how it works out.

I REALLY LOVE the several pix you have around here with all the Security Guards. You need to set up some more. Maybe 2 shots, where Kirk is facing a Gorn or something and then Kirk facing the Gorn and 20 Red Shirts have shown up.
