Which would be better?

I got a hold of a vintage Batman head today, and I was wondering which would be a better outfit.

Would it be better to go with the classic grey outfit, or an all black one?

An all black outfit, only broken up by the yellow of the utility belt and the background of the bat symbol would be cool, but doesn't necessarily go with the blue cowl.

An all grey outfit, with a blue cape, yellow belt, blue boots, etc. is more in keeping with a vintage look, but I want to think outside the box here.

I'd like some opinions folks, so don't be shy.

Well...in my humble opinion...the Mego Batman makes a great Year One Batman in all black. The Trunks are already black on the original Mego Costume...so all you have to do is paint the Eyes white, and the Head black. Dr.Mego sells all the black Accessories you need in his Catalog.

I always wanted to make a Red Batman to go with my Red Superman.You can't get more outside the box than that.

If you'd like a black-cowled Batman, try using a strong solution of black household dye & dying the head. It should tint the vinyl but not interfere with the paint.

Yeah, but how do I keep it from affecting the face portion of the head?

Or should I apply the dye with an paintbrush?

Hmmmm....

I got one that I'm doing up like the 1960's/Adam West Batman. Painted the head with automotive vinyl paint, left blue spots for the nose and eyebrows. Used a paintbrush. Good stuff, use it outside. Don't get it on your hands. (It's kinda dangerous until it dries.)

I plan to get some disposable latex gloves for this job, but thanks for the advice.

Any idea on where to get more of the rubber bands used in the vintage figures?

I have dyed modern Joe heads, not Megoes. The dye solution colors the vinyl but not the paint, so I think Bat's lower face & eyes should be OK.

I make the dye on the stove-top & simply immerse & simmer the whole head. Keep stirring to dye evenly, also don't let the head rest on the bottom of the pan.

I've been wondering if an orange-brown dyebath might remedy "zombie" heads.
