I think that is what I am going to do. I want Thing to be his natural six foot size with his mass. I am making a Mego line but a lot of the bigger characters I have to use "Mego like" bodies to achieve their likeness or close to the original size. When I made Hercules, I had to redo my Thor because he didn't look right. I have a transvesite original Mego Thor in a box somewhere but I am working on a new custom one with repo Mego Thor parts and a hybrid Famous Covers body that brings him close to a 8 1/2 inches in size.
This Thing idea of yours I might borrow the rock idea with the black under suit. Just want to have something more close to the character's likeness.

^^^ The Urban Icons bodies are better for Ben, they have more ape like arms. the only thing I had to do was reposition the fingers and bulk up the upper arms.
