Alternatives to the midget Mego Thing?

Some of you have found alternatives for Hulk (like me).
I have never been able to stand that midget Hulk.

But....has anyone attempted to make a "bigger" Thing (Ben Grimm) figure?

This (next to my armored Iron man) is on my "too do" list.

    Ideas??

I love the Mego Thing. I would never substitute a custom for him, nor change any detail, except possibly put a trenchcoat and fedora on mine.
Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?

    Check out my customs!

Mego Thing is one of my favorite Mego dolls. I wouldn't change him one bit.

Funny. I thought this thread was going to be about the development of a midget body in the MEGO scale.

Someone should definitely tackle a project like that for some custom characters that could use it.

Mr Myxzlptlk comes to mind... Bat-Mite too.

I could just see the awesome new Myxy sculpt unveiled by BK last week on a nicely articulated Midget body. AWESOME!

The final figure being slightly big-headed would actually be perfect for an imp from the 5th dimension!

Come to think of it, hasn't the Jakk's Paciffic Wrestling line of figures released a midget wrestler character that might be a good starting point?

I have like 3 of them..... & STILL look at them all the time, when they are for sale.

Still,.. I'd like a bigger Thing for the Land of BK ... But I was Hoping that Hasbro would come out with a 12 incher for the Legends line..., Because personally, that's what I would want. Then I could sew him some shorts.

I dig the original. I have enough customs, Mego didnt do to keep me busy. I see your point, I just don't have a prob with him. Good luck, though, and go for it.

Not bad of an idea. Thing isn't know for his tallness. He is technically about six foot and almost 500 lbs. So he would be the average mego size. That would put him about the same size of the main 8 inch heroes.
His mass would be what makes him big. So many I need to create a hybrid body of 8 inch size but with a lot of bumpy mass to create rocks and cracks.

I like what you did but I don't think I am going to go with a costume with rocks silkscreened on it. I am going to try a differnet path. I could have sworn I saw someone take a Famous Covers Hulk and make it into a Thing. It look pretty damn good. I can't find it now. I thought it was Thunderbolt. Judging from his comment above, it must not have been him.

^^^ Ohh, I have one, I also have a Mego one for my MEGO collection if that's ok. Didn't use a FC Hulk body, tho.

I don't think he looks too bad, at least not compared to the Hulk.

I have always liked the Thing the way Mago made him. One of the few figures that actually has his mouth open (and it makes sense). I think he is one of Mego's finer pieces. When he first came out, I about drove my mother insane asking her what I could do to earn one. So many a chore went into getting this figure when I was a kid. Lots of love for him and I still have him in his original box.

Why not just use a CTVT 5" childs body? I've got a few and they don't have the quality or pee stance problems of the 8" bodies.

My favorite custom Thing is by bleit 1701, which is on my "must buy" list- check his custom site- he's on a Famous Covers Sabretooth body, with a screenprinted suit. All I would change is to get an enlargement of Mego's original Thing head. I know Thing wasn't a "giant" originally, but the first time I saw him as a kid was the treasury sized FF book, with the Galactus first appearance reprints. That "huge monster" image always stuck with me, so I'd want him a little taller than my other guys.
