Dying/coloring dark hair a lighter color?

I have a female figure with thick rooted black hair and I need to get it a light brown and maybe even an orangish light brown.
I have tried placing the hair part of the head in a bowl of bleach for hours and nothing happens.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I hate to say it, but I think you may need to start with a head with blond hair if you want to change it to a more specific color. At least with light hair it's possible to color it in with a permanent marker like a fat Sharpie for example in the color you're going for. Being that the hair on these heads is made of plastic I think bleach will have very little to no effect at all on removing the dyes used in the hair's production. And anything stronger would probably melt or dissolve the hair completely.

Unless you wanna reroot the entire head, I'd suggest going with a blonde head too.

A few people have said that they've used paint or markers to make slight changes to blonde hair. For permanent results that can be styled and handled, your best bet is to reroot.

The problem with using a different head is that the head I have is perfect for what I want which is why I bought it.
The re-rooting of hair is a great idea and I would take you up on the offer spiderrogue except that I really wanted this done in a few days.
Still working on other possibilities so we shall see.
