    ST:TAS M'Ress & Arex

Has anyone tried custom characters from animated Trek? Arex seems difficult but not impossible; M'Ress seems very doable.

Didn't Don make a feline head for a custom? Don't think it was M'Ress, but possibly it could be used for her also

I saw the Playmates custom figures for those two, which were pretty good.

Yeah, I know of a few people who are in the process of making them, myself included.
I am still at least one to two weeks away from having them done. I will of course post pics of them when they are done in my Mego Trek custom thread

I put the 3 legs together (my Arex has boots not padded foot) and have a 3 armed torso done....but I havent even started a head....I'm still trying to figure out what to do for the middle 3 fingered hand. The cartoon seems to mostly show Arex from the right side, and the middle hand looks to be a lefty, but when they show him from the other side its a righty???...my Arex may end up wearing mittens!!!!

I completed a Lt. Arex head but am trying to figure how to make the 3 armed/3 legged body. The eyes might be off. Here's a pic for those of you sculpting one to compare to.

                        John:

                        Yes, it's a SUPER sculpt.

The body shouldn't be too hard.. Basically just taking a handsaw, chop off the shoulder end of a mego arm, fill it with putty (if it's hollow), then drill a hole through a Arex body, take a screw and attach the arm (with a yellow sleeve on) out front. Then sew the yellow trek sleeve into the middle of a normal yellow shirt and there you go for the upper torso. 'Course I'd have the shirt on before you attach the arm and head, but after the hole is drilled. Some alien hands might be preferred.

For the legs, I've been looking at pics for some comparably-sized alien figures with weird legs, but nothing's popped up yet..

I was thinking of using spare parts from a T1 Mego body as Arex is lanky and very thin for the upper torso. If you cut a slit or round hole into the middle of the chest you should be able to fit an arm there. For the lower torso I can't imagine anything less than a total custom underwear piece and custom legs. Maybe something could be strung together with plastic beads and styrene tubing.

Thats pretty much what I did John. You cant cut a round hole though, you have to go oblong ....at least if you want to have the arm angle downwards a bit. For the legs, I tied three type 2 legs togther. A regular left and right leg, and in the center a leg from an EMCE McCoy that had the lower portion put on backwards....this way the leg can be set back, and the boot portion kicks forward. Didnt need to worry about a crotch section as I ran a bolt through the leg holes...when it was all together, and with pants on...you have a crotch. I then ran elastic from the bolt up to the arms to hold the chest piece to the legs.
Despite what was shown on the toon', I envision Arex as resting on his three legs instead of sitting in a chair when at the navigation console.
