    head painting problem

So I've got a head with black hair that needs to be blonde. I primered it gray and painted it yellow and it looked mucusy yellow. Any suggestions? It doesn't have to be surfer blonde more of a gold, almost. It for a custom Doc Savage I'm working on.

I tend not to use yellow for blonde haired people. They sometimes come out looking funky. There are a lot of cool shades of light golden browns that work real well and get away from that look you describe.

Unless of course you're going for a Mego blonde look which was pretty much yellow. Helpful hint. If you're going for Mego Blonde, use yellow, but add just a touch of green. Sounds weird but trust me, you'll get spot on that Aquaman/GA blonde if you add just a hint of green.

Dave, thanks for the tip about tweaking the yellow with a green for a Mego look.

I've had a terrible time matching yellows for retouching: on Human Torch, for example.

The yellows I've bought always seem to have an orange undertone. So try a lemon yellow with a touch of kelly green?

I am a mixer. I like to mix up colors to get my own results. For blond hair, I mix in a dab of flesh tone color into yellow paint. That always gives me the best blond hair look. I did that for my Johnny Storm head I made last week.

if you are painting yellow, it's better to use a white primer. However, titanium white covers better than other whites if you coat that over the gray.....

in fact, any color will be a little more opaque if you add just a little titanium to it.....

If you do want a cartoony yellow, don't use a pure yellow from the bottle. Add a hint of white...
