    shrink a head????

I just went to the hardware store and bought Aceatone.....and I am about to try this for the first time.....any suggestions.

It is a 12" KEN (barbie) head....and I want to make it fit an 8" mego figure.

    tips

Buy a cheap pair of tongs to insert and pull the head out. Make sure all the air is out or he will float. I use a glass jar but make sure the mouth is wide enough to remove the head easily because it will be bigger than when it went in. It will be soft and squishy so be gentle. It may take several dunkings to shrink Ken down.

From 12" down to 8" wuth using acetone. I'd say, no way the head will shrink that much. It will come down to 10" scale at best.

Those harder plastic Barbie doll heads are a ***** to shrink. They didn't work for me at all.

The Barbie heads might depend on when they are made. I shrunk one and it came out really well, but haven't done any others since then. I took some comparison pics of various heads before and after shrinking. If anyone wants to see them, I'll post them later on. The nice thing about Barbie and Ken is that they're just a tad smaller than normal 12" scale figures, so they're more likely to reach Mego size. I've never tried a Ken head though.
Wrath - just for you, I attempted a large Dollikin head with the hair. The good news is that the head expanded and will probably shrink as it dries. The bad news it that it split the whole way around the hairline. I'm still saying it can be done if the hair isn't too heavy. Right now I have a Charlie's Angels head in the acetone jar, trying the same experiment. I'll let you know how it comes out.

I would love to rehair that Dollikin head if you no longer want it. I have some liquid latex and I'm dying to try hair punching!!!

Yeah, if you really want it.

Mefiboschet was right....Ken head did shrink, but not enough to fit 8" Mego...It would look great on a Famous Covers figure.....think I will use it on FC to make custom Bucky to go with 12" Captain America.

Anyone have any suggestions on what heads can be shrunk to fit Mego body???????

Any head can be shrunk to fit a Mego body, you just have to be using the right product. Acetone, depending on what the original head is made of, might get you down 1-2 sizes, so a 10" figure probably will come into scale for Mego, but anything more is doubtful. If you want to shrink something larger, use hydrospan. There is a tutorial on the process in the CustoMego section.
