    Whose heads are better?

Whose rotocast heads are better? DocMego or CTVT?

I want to get some male heads and I want to know whose are better.

I know that CTVT are pretty cheap, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are a better bargain.

I also know that Doc's heads are pretty reliable, even if they are more expensive.

I would like some honest opinions here.

Doc, when you read this, feel free to chip in. There's no shame in self-promotion.

Personally I find Docs heads to be much better than the CTVT ones
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

From what I've heard, the CTVT heads are softer while Docs are harder. Not 100% sure about that.

        Whose heads are better?

Pfffftttt! They can always be heated up with hot water or a blow dryer in order to pop them into the body.

Over all...I prefer Doc Mego's Heads. They are more Mego like in color(except Red-Faced Scotty). But I like CTVT's Bruce Wayne(Tex Willer) Head better, because it's slightly larger...where Doc's Bruce Wayne Head shrunk to much, so that the Batman Cowl fits too loosely.

Well, I guess it depends on what head you want. There are very few heads that both Doc and CTVT have both rotocast. In most cases you only have one choice.

But for overall quality, Doc's are far and above CTVT's IMO. CTVT's are softer, too soft, and the paintjobs aren't as nice. CTVT's also tend to be oversized for anything they created new, and undersized for some of the reproductions (Alan Carter and Paul Morrow come to mind). Doc's tend to be more firm than the average Megohead, making putting them on the bodies a little tougher, but otherwise they are much higher quality.

I also agree with Dave above. The CTVT paint jobs are a real disappointment.

The only repro line of theirs I found tolerable was Merry Men.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

                  Whose heads are better?

The only ones I liked from CTVT are the Ivanhoe and Bruce heads.

Ya notice that they had both Galahad and Will Scarlet on separate pages?

                  They're the same head!

Zorro is simply a Galahad/Will head with black hair, a mustache and a mask painted on!

I found that for the lines that CTVT mass produced - knights, western heroes, pirates etc, the heads are too soft and as a result the paint jobs do not hold up as well. For heads like Bruce Wayne, Zoro and maybe a few others, they were a little harder and so work better. Dr. Mego has better quality all around but not always as much slection for rotocast heads. A lot depends on what you are looking for.....but as is usually the case you get what you pay for. Quality counts. I would stick with Dr. Mego.

And what do you think Mego did differently?

In my book, any rotocast head is a good one. Yes, CTVT's were either a touch too small (repros) and originals were on the large side, but most of Doc's older ones are rock hard. Either option is better than an unpainted resin cast any day of the week, and cheaper at that.
