It would be nice to see those pictures. Thank you! I haven't come across any websites that has information and illustrations on how to repair/restore Big Jim figures. If anyone could recommend some sites, it would be much appreciated. There seems to be way too many Big Jim and friends with broken parts that need to be repaired.

I believe Its like a Barbie head connection. Lets see if I can describe what I mean. The neck end is like a ball joint socket. The head connector has a flang or saucer plug at the end that inserts into big jims head.Comment

That's sounds right. Below are the pics I promised.
The back of the neck broke off while I was trying to remove the head. A bit of a happy accident. Now it's easy to see how the head attaches. At the top of the torso is a rubber stop.
There's a dumbell shaped piece that sits on top of the stop and into the head.
You can see the groove that the top of the dumbell fits into just under my thumbnail. (The head was very stiff. I had to split it open to show the detail)

That neck plastic gets pretty crumbly on old Jims. I wasn't even trying to pop the head and I demolished one the other day. All I did was try to make him look up. whoops.

Crap. I wish I'd seen this thread sooner. I make alot of Big Jim repro parts. And in doing so, I've learned alot about repairing them.
The head can be popped off by soaking it in boiling water. The head gets soft and will come off. This leaves the dumdbell still in the neck hole of the body. If you try to pull the dumbbell out, most of the time it will bust the neck hole.
You can replace the hands that have broken off the wrist peg. You have to have a good hand and wrist peg. Soak the arm in boiling water; wrist down in the water. The skin will get soft, pull it down towards the elbow. Even soft, this ain't easy. You will see a small slot for the wrist pin. Use a small flat head screwdriver to prise the wrist pin out. Then insert the new hand with wrist pin.
I've replaced hands onto good wrist pins. But they are very hard to do and really don't hold up that well. Just seem too loose for my tastes.
A broken knee or ankle is pretty easy. Again soak the part in boiling water. Wrap the part in some padding, a folded paper towel will do. Grasp the part with plyers and pull! Replace with good knee or ankle.
A broken hip is a totally different animal. I've fixed them many times. It's something that is hard to do and takes some time. But I've been working on a project that just may make it easier to do that type of repair.
To clean the arms, I only use Dawn Power Dissolver.
It's in the dishwashing detergent department of stores like Walmart. It's the only thing that will take that Big Jim grime off of those arms. They look like brand new when finished. It's a gel like spray. So it clings to the arms pretty good. Spray it on and let it sit for 30 minutes. Use paper towels to rub/buff the grime off. You may have to do this twice, but this is good stuff. Also be sure to use rubber gloves. DPD will take the top layer of skin off. It's a watered down version of Easy Off Oven Cleaner.
