Strawberry Shortcake 30th Anniversary collection: Mini review.

    Smile a sunny morning...

I got the Strawberry Shortcake 30th Anniversary collection today. Can't open it yet though. It's a Christmas present.

From what I can see, they're berry close to the vintage ones. I'm actually surprised how close Hasbro was able to match the patterns and materials of their outfits and I doubt they had access to the vintage Kenner molds for the dolls. They'd fit in perfectly with the classic dolls on display. The set even comes with a classic style post card.

But there's some neat little things about this set which sets them apart from the originals. They all use the first style flat hands body but Orange Blossom and Raspbery Tart were only issued with the curved hand style to the best of my knowledge. Strawberry and Raspberry are in their first year outfits but Orange is from the later Party Pleaser series. The Party Pleaser Orange also came with her pet which is not included here. The comb is obviously a different mold with thicker and fewer teeth.

It's a terrific set and a real bargin at $29.99, in my opinion. The only thing that could have made this any better would have been including their little pets.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I love vintage strawberry shortcake- so much so that when our daughter Dani was born 3 years ago we decorated her nursery in vintage Strawberry Shortcake. Luckily she loves Strawberry Shortcake and has numerous Strawberry dolls and items. When I saw this set I had to have it for Dani and when I was at the order screen I "somehow" was compelled to enter two (2) in the quantity field :O) When the set came in I giggled like I was 6 years old again. I love it. Like Werewolf I just wish they had included the pets. There is a set for Dani (and me) to play with and one for me to display. I am going to put them under the tree but waiting is hard.

It's just too bad they didn't make the villians of the series. You know of the ones I speak, Sour Grapes and the Peculiar Purple Pieman of Porcupine Peak. Yah-tah-tah-tah-tah-tah-tah-tah, tah-tah-tah-tah! Cha!

        That's berry cool!

I saw this at Toys R Us on Saturday. I almost bought it...for myself. As a kid I only had the boy character (Huckleberry?) but I often took him over the neighbors place when I hung out with her because she had like every character.

My niece has a few of the modern ones. She loves them.

I believe that when Hasbro bought Kenner they bought access to all the Kenner molds as well, not just the catalog lines. The first four figures in the 1995 Star Wars "Classic 4-Pack" were made from the original Kenner molds.

Raspberry Tart looks almost exactly like the original. Strawberry Shortcake went through a couple of variations in her early days. The one pictured in this set looks like the 2nd or 3rd release. I don't have the Party Pleaser Orange Blossom, but have the regular version. So can't say for sure about that one. But probably a better choice of outfit than her funky 80s dress.

Here are the original vintage ones by Kenner... (What? Yes I play with dolls... don't judge me!)

I have Bluberry Muffin doll, I had Starwberry Shortcake, but her seam split at the bottom. I don't remember what happened to the parts. I bought them a while back (w/ extra clothes some gramma crocheted), at a flea market for about $2 each. This was more my kid sister's line. She was even Strawberry Shortcake for Halloween one year. But I do have a Strawberry Shortcake video game for the Atari 2600.

Cool, I dig Strawberry Shortcake too. I love 80s toys

Okay, I couldn't wait and opened my set. The 30th anniversary ones, while VERY close, are definitely not the same molds. The new shoes all have a strawberry embossed on the bottom and Strawberry Shortcake's shoes are slightly larger than the vintage.

The dolls have very nice full hair. The hair on the early runs of the dolls could be a little sparse at times.

The bodys are not the same. For starters Raspberry and Orange were never issued with flat hands. The bodies are a new sculpt. Now, I didn't undress them, because I don't want to mess them up and they are a serious pain to redress, but I can tell the body is new. The most noticeable difference is they have molded undies. None of the vintage dolls I have use a body like that.

As far as I can tell they smell the same though. Some of my originals still have a faint scent.

I highly recommend the 30th Anniversary set to Strawberry and 80s toys fans. Great quality and a terrific homage to a beloved classic line.

Cool game and very good graphics by 2600 standards.

Cool, didn't know this set was out, I'll have to tell the wife. I think Strawberry Shortcake is a pretty cool toy line, great colors and accessories! I was around 3rd or 4th grade when these first came out and I remember they were super popular with the girls at the time, brings back good memories
