The tentative line-up so far apparently is:
Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and....Nick Fury. Possibly a "member of the Hulk Universe" as well as Black Widow. No mention of Ant-Man or the Wasp or anyone else as of yet....

Seriously...Nick Fury as an actual MEMBER...Nick Fury? Really? :juggleyes_y:

Cool line-up. Maybe Fury will be the team leader? Not sure about him actually running around and stuff. Hopefully they will add some 2nd stringers too. Could lead into spin-off films for them.

What I read was that Fury will be in the movie (Jackson signed on with Marvel for nine movies including Avengers and any sequels). He'll be in the film(s), but I didn't get that it would be as a team member. Confirmed team members are Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk and Thor based on what I read.

I guess Favreau is Executive Producer for the film and based on his love and care with Iron Man, I have a bit of confidence that this movie will be good. (I guess he confirmed Iron Man 3 at ComicCon?Jon Favreau Confirms Iron Man 3 | WorstPreviews.com (http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=14420))

producer Kevin Feige on the lineup for the upcoming Avengers film, and while things aren’t set in stone yet, Feige was surprisingly firm about who will make the cut:

I think it’s going to be Iron Man and Thor, Captain America and Nick Fury. I think it’s safe to assume that there will be some members of the Hulk universe in the film as well. In terms of the additional I think Black Widow, sure. The SHIELD organization for sure. What’s exciting, for me, about The Avengers movie is seeing those four characters interact with each other. I think anywhere from the first issues of The Avengers to Civil War the dynamic between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark is just awesome, it’s fascinating. It brings out sides in others that won’t be brought out in the other franchises. Going forward with the mix is a whole other thing, I think it will be cool. So to pile on another 15 or 10, frankly more than four would be too many.

This is what I just read....

I can see him being in the movie based on that report, but I can't read anything into about him being part of the team, an actual Avenger. However, he did show up at the end of Iron Man to recruit Tony Stark, so I guess they may be where they are going with this.

If they get Cap right, and Downey is in it as Iron Man, they can have the other Avengers be Gilgamesh and Dr. Druid for all I care!

I am definitely looking forward to these, I hate the wait , but if they are done well I'm okay with it.

Why do they think they need Fury when they have Cap? I don't understand this decision either. Put some REAL Avengers in there.

I'm a Nick Fury fan to be sure...but not as an Avenger.

They don't need fury they need name recognition (for non com fans) they need Samuel L Jackson

They're trying to "Ultimatize" this movie IMO....that's why Fury will probably play a big role ala "The Ultimates" comic. Personally I'd rather see Hank Pym in some form and the Wasp.

There needs to be a chick in this flick....I'm not so sold on the movie version of the Black Widow being an Avenger. I know Iron Man 2 isn't done yet but it's my understanding that she's just a very good spy with no powers so I don't think that's what Marvel's premiere team needs in its first movie outing.

There's some speculation that the Hulk universe member could be a She-Hulk, thus adding a female quotient to the film.

They don't need him if they already have Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man....

I love Samuel Jackson. I'm not even opposed to him being Nick Fury. But, I don't see where it is necessary for Fury to come within ten miles of an Avengers flick (other than the fact that Marvel signed Jackson to a nine movie deal).

The only way to do this is to have the Cap movie be set as a prequel, then the assembled Avengers find him in ice at the beginning of an Avengers movie, Cap is the team leader, and we go from there. Kinda like it happened in the book. All the streams flow into one (for the Avengers).

Presumably, they should have all of that in place since all of the entities will have had a movie before they appear in the Avengers. I thought that was where they were going with this, but this development makes it seem like they doubt the strength of the Cap and Thor Movies to bring this to a head.

Nick Fury, if he is in it, should be a secondary character in the Avengers movie. I don't like the look of the Black Widow from the new Iron Man movie (she just doesn't look right to me) and would be highly surprised if she has a role of any significance in the Avengers flick. Hank and Jan Pym need to be in the Avengers movie...'nuff said!:wink_y:

To me and I'm going by what was said at the end of the Hulk movie, this team is suppose to be heavy hitters who can handle a Hulk situation. And I don't see Nick Fury as being able to do so. So instead of him,I think they should have Namor.

This sounds like the Ultimates where Nick Fury has a big role in the team. I always thought if they made an Avengers movie it would be like the Ultimate version which already read like a movie.

I'm Hoping Pym and the Wasp are in it and having the Hulk will only add to it.

Any word on Norton playing Hulk/Banner? I sure hope he does! He's the best thus far!

Anything that gets us more Scarlett Johansen in a black leather cat suit is good. :) As far as Fury goes, I doubt he's going to be hanging out at Avengers Mansion with the guys. He's going to be calling the shots from SHIELD headquarters.

It would be a mistake not to feature Giant Man & the Wasp. Giant Man would look great visually in live action. You only have to look at the fun they had on Transformers to know how good this would look.

I think they should certainly need to have the Vision by the first sequel. No Avenger Team would be complete without him. Him and the Scarlet Witch would make a great dynamic for film. I would just love seeing the Vision plow his fists through two thugs on the street. That would look so cool in the theater!

Yeah...this is probably the Ultimates version of The Avengers. But the team has always had a connection to the government or SHIELD. At one time it was Gyrich - but he was killed of in X-Men 2. I don't see Nick Fury in the field. I see him in a situation room, with Cap as the field team leader. So, that would make Cap, Iron Man and Thor, with maybe Hawkeye and Black Widow. I don't know that we'll see The Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver, simply because they're Magneto's kids. In the world of licensing, they would have no connection to Magneto except for maybe a mention, they'd be totally unrecognizable - they may or may not be mutants - or not included. I could see where they would not want to include the Pyms. I get it - I don't like it. This could probably be a pretty decent action flick...

All joking aside, the Hoff wasn't too far off from Steranko's Nick Fury. Impossibly chiseled features and over-blown monologues are trademarks of both.

Kent McCord would have been a perfect cast for Nick Fury IMHO. Thought so since Predator 2! He might be a tad too old now, but he was dead on 10 years ago!

They'll have to put a Dr. Pym in there. I could have swore I read something about an Antman movie idea...nothing is set in stone.
