I went to the movie today and I must say it was entertaining. The robot speaking slang kinda spoiled it for me. The effects I thought were very good and there were a few laughs. Overall, a decent watch.

Movies that use a lot of slang get dated really quickly. It'll be unwatchable in ten years, if not sooner.

Soo true Ant. I believe the movie was geared towards an 11 yr. old.

I liked it. I agree,it will be dated, but so are the most cherished sought after "Gen 1 line". F-16's and hand-held cassette recorders were very dated items, but people loved them most.

I think now in this generation, our youth will now have something to look on in their childhoods Transformer-related like I and so many other did when we were young. Cool thing is I get to experience it all over again! WOW 1984 baby!

I was ready to be let down but in all honesty, I was entertained.I thought it was pretty good, too much Hollywood drama not enough bots.
I understand that they're doing and the money it costs but it was a movie about big a** bots going out and bending some metal let it be about that.

I thought it was decent. There were lots of good moments and the special effects were outstanding. But it also suffered from way too many big, dumb summer action movie cliches. It reminded me a lot of Independence Day. And please, give me at least one person to root for. Most people who watched it with me liked it more than I did, though.

For the most part I thought the movie was great and the special effects were unbelievable! The only thing that disappointed me was Bay's choice to not go with the G1 robot designs.

While I agree to a certain extent (I can't imagine sitting through Transformers today, let alone 10 years from now), I can also think of many movies where usage of slang has actually made the movie more endearing--perfectly capturing the era/location in which the movie was made.....

There are many movies that I would not see even if:

A) it was free

B) they had a tub of popcorn and a coke waiting for me when I got there

Transformers is one of those movies.......

I just saw it today in Nashville. Very entertaining movie. The only other version of the Transformers I ever watched was the classic 80's cartoon by Marvel and Sunbow that ran along with G.I.JOE.
I recognized all the Autobots and it was great to hear Peter Cullen again as Optimus Prime. I recognized Ironhide, Ratchet, Jazz, and Bumblebee. As for the Decepticons, I only remembered Megatron and Starscream. I did not recognize any of the other ones. I'm surprised they didn't use Soundwave, and those blue and purple jets. Also, I thought Megatron was a gun. I actually cannot remember many of them, but my limited knowledge comes from watching that cartoon. The teenage kid makes me think of Spike from the cartoon and oddly enough, his Dad could have been Sparkplug. He sure looked like the part.
In terms of musical score, I felt like I was watching the Transformers but listening to Batman Begins. Same kind of music throughout most of the movie.
Anyway, I loved it regardless.
Cheers.

I can hardly wait until this hits HBO. October can't come quickly enough. :googly:

While I can understand someone hating the slang, at least they gave a plausible explanation for it.

This movie did get a little corny toward the end and sounded a bit like Saturday morning dialog coming from the Autobots. Still it was the best of the Summer blockbusters so far. It had solid humor, lots of eye candy and well done action scenes. No academy award nominations for the cast, but fun.

The movie will do very well at the box office. Although I never watched the Transformers cartoon because I was in High School by the time they came out, I do remember the toys.

I didn't have much in the way of expectation but I found it to be pretty humorous and good special effects.

I thought they could have left out the foul language and in your face sexual references and still would have kept it funny and good. There were a lot of young kids in the audience and I thought it was really unnecessary but like someone said the movie was made to appeal more to a teenager than a younger viewer.

The audience reaction was good and seemed to have the same kind of reaction with applause and cheering just as I remember Spider-Man 1. No doubt this will do well and there will be sequels coming.

So is this a "See it on the big screen" experience or is it ok to wait for HBO as Hulkster suggests?

I think it's worth going to the movies for,I haven't seen special effects like that in a while

I agree that it's worth going to see on the big screen. Our particular viewing of the movie was broadcast completely digital on a super wide screen and it was breathtaking.

Like I said, I really don't know a whole lot about Transformers since they were not toys I grew up with but the movie was very humorous and the fx was especially good.

I also really enjoyed the audience reaction with adults who obviously were huge Transformer fans as kids. Everytime a particular Transformer would first show up in the movie, there was almost like a big thunderous cheer from the audience.

Lot's of applause at the end of the movie which is pretty unusual at leat around here and the last time I remember an audience being so stoked over a movie like this was Spiderman-1

I saw it before everyone else did employee showings are great! Then I went and saw it on the preview, people were cheering and raising all kindsa hell! I loved the experience of seeing it on the big screen (well, I'm a Transformer freak, what do ya expect?) My guitarist hated it, he thought they should have went Gen 1 with the look of the bots, and was disgusted with the movie, but he's the definition of a killjoy! :smiley1:

Again, I thought it was great to see the bots on the big screen, Michael Bay went over the top with the effects and the stunts, the bots looked great and the action was awesome!

*********SPOILER ALERT**********

The only thing that really got me is they killed my favorite Transformer, now that sucked:cry:

I enjoyed it and have to say Peter Cullen as Prime really added to it.
I popped for the "One will stand, one will fall" line being brought back. I think they did a good job taking the concept and making it work for more than just kids and updating it. It should definitely be seen on the big screen.
I would have liked to see a bit more development on the some of the supporting transformers (particularly Starscream) but maybe there will be more in the sequel. Oh yeah and Megan Fox is HOT! I'm pretty desensitized in that type of thing but I found myself thinking it everytime she was on screen.

Yeah I have to agree she's a freakin' hottie  I also would've liked to have seen more of the old characters, and I have to admit that kid from even Stevens has turned out to be a pretty darn good actor,he made me crack up a lot in the movie

:biggrin:Saw it with the family yesterday, and it's everything you want in a summer blockbuster. The fact that it took time to have an actual storyline, some character development and some genuine humor made it more than just an effects movie. We all really enjoyed it. Our audience clapped at the end too, and several classic lines and character intros got some "YEAH!" reactions from the crowd. LeBouf was good, and the girl is indeed a cutie. I felt like a dirty old man. And my wife told me I was.

For pure specatacle alone, I gotta say that this is some of the best FX I've ever seen. It's pretty much flawless. If you want to see it, go do so on the big screen. It's well worth it!

While I don't like it as much as just about everyone else seems to, even I would say that if you want to see it, to go see it at the theatre. It would lose something on the small screen.

Transformers was fun but certainly not the best Summer popcorn movie...at least for me.

I enjoyed it too. The movie has me interested in buying one of the old shows on DVD. Looks a little confusing when I look on Amazon. They made so many versions. I would to love see a few of the oldest cartoons from the early 80's (shown here in NYC on Channel 11 before at 4:00 pm after school before "Good Times.")
As a side note, at 4:30 I would watch the 4:30 Movie which often showed the Wonder Woman TV movie with Kathy Lee Crosby, Planet of the Apes Movies, Batman, and the Omega Man. Those were the pre-Oprah and cable days.

Die Hard was incredible. Highly enjoyed it.

Transformers was WAY too long and WAY too busy. I wanted that stupid movie to end and I never once cared what happened. I hated it. Surprised, because I am totally in favor of fighting giant robots.

If you are looking for a movie that is fun, exciting and familiar all at the same time, Live Free or Die Hard is definitely the way to go. I know it would be the kind of movie that I wouldn't bother analyzing DURING the movie. It works quickly into the action and rarely lets up. You realize 45 minutes afterwards that you are still decompressing from the non-stop action. A thoroughly enjoyable way to spend your summer movie money.

Just saw Transformers last night. I thought it was mediocre. I was a moderate fan of the cartoon as a kid (I prefered G.I. Joe) and went in a different direction then I expected.

I got a hacked DVD of this movie. I didn't think I would enjoy it. That is why I bought the hack. I liked it so much, I might goto the theatre to see it.

I went to see it w/Antonio and his wife and thought this was a great film. Seeing the previews for this it looked like it was an event film.

I won't badger anyone to rush out and see it but it does look better on the big screen. I think now that the crowds have died down if you were not sure about seeing it but have free time some evening or Saturday morning/afternoon make the effort and treat yourself to a little bit of fun and scifi/fantasy.

The only down-side to seeing this was some people sat in front of Antonio and throughout the film there was this Captain Bringdown in the group and all he kept saying thru the film was, "This is stupid, this sucks, that's dumb!, " and for the finale, " These people need Psychiatrists if they applaud for this movie!"

Clearly this person was not a fan and didn't want to be there but is it necessary to be a jerk during the film!?!?!?! I was never a fan of the toy or cartoon but really was impressed with it.
